My 9 year old Kitchenaide Professional 6 has been a bit off its game on start up for about a year, getting worse and then today was just dead, several slides and came to life, but not under control. Ordered new speed control and hope its the right one and cures the issue. I did take the top off and blow out the old one of flour and look at it, seems working, for now. Wish me luck and more news to follow.

I have the same

mixer...it is just a little more than 7 years old.  I have replaced the speed control 3 times already.  Frustrating but it does fix the problem for a short period of time.  The last time I ordered two controls to have a back up.  Nothing like the mixer going out during a family gathering or holiday.  Good luck but from my experience you have ordered the correct part to fix it (for the moment).

The old governor controlled

models hold up much better...but if sheer power is what you want , I have a 1930s model G that has a gearbox, the motor runs one speed....I believe it would mix cement!

Tried machine again, I guess the cleaning and some wd 40 made it happy for now, OR its scared of the replacement part that came with a gray knob? mixer is all black. Saving it till it gives up again, I guess. Flour on the contacts maybe? It does have a decent cooling fan.
