Sweet ride...
Looks like it's had a few upgrades since it rolled off the assembly line, especially that air intake. I'll soon be getting my hands on my '64 Olds Dynamic 88 drop-top.

That is a cool car and has been restored very well.Lucky you to have that in your
garage.What is cool is the front bench seat.Wish car company's made bench seat again.Made the car look bigger and were easier to get into and out of.Enjoy,that bad baby;fun motoring.

Is that a 421
Super Duty, or a beefed up 389? Carb., or throttle body f.i.? All go! No A/C, 4 on the floor, and manual steering? Two piece aluminum rims?
I saw a plum brown colored one two weeks ago 'round here.

From 59 thru 62. a 62 Tri Power 421 Catalina was a real road burner!What most people don't know is the Star Chief and Bonnevilles from 61-64 did not use the terrible Slim Jim Hydra Matic. They used the old 4 speed Hydra Matic like Cadillac used. a much better unit.

the old four speed hydramatic's tooling was all burned up in the big Livonia Hydramatic plant fire in 1954. Lincoln was even using it.
A new four speed automatic was in large V8 Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, and Buicks until 1965. It was either the super roto hydramatic, or Jet-a-way. See "Charlie Tranny's" website.

subsequent 4 speed hydramatics after 1954 made at Willow Run had few if any parts in common with the old unit.
B.O.P. divisons also used the Super Turbine 300 2 speed unit until the 3 speed turbo hydramtaic cam out.

For a short time Cads and Olds used Dynaflows while Pontiacs used Powerglides. this was after the Hydra Matic plant burned. but the old Hydra Matic WAS built in part of 54 and all of 55 and I have seen it in a few 56 Olds also. the Super Turbine 300 2 speed was a powerglide. Tumultuous time for GM. The Turboglide didn't work well either, and the early aluminum case Powerglides were prone to cracks.
The Slim Jim emptied the front fluid coupling to fill the rear for second, with an abrupt shift.
Everything got ironed out with the 350 and 400 THM. Until the THM 200 they connected to V8 engines. It was designed for the Chevette.

Oh I remember THAT thing!!
THM 200. AKA Metric 200. What a disgrace after the 350 and 400!!! I personally like the old 4 speed with no park...aint no slipping when it shifts..BANG!On a early 50s Olds it will bark the tires when it shifts from first to second!
