I recently bought a Hoover Elite Total System Performance 200 for $4.99 at Goodwill and didn’t know if this was the first Elite or if the Elite 200 was first.

Excellent, excellent find!

The Elite 200 was the first Elite. Although yours is not one of the early ones, I would still call it an Elite 200, since it is basically the same thing. By the serial number, yours was made in April 1992. I think the Elite 200 came out in 1988 or 1989 and looked virtually the same. The bag pattern was a bit different as was the writing on the hood, and the motor drew 5 amps instead of 5.5, but that's about as far as the differences went.

I don't have an Elite 200, but I do have a C1403, which was the commercial version. Mine was made January 1991.

Thank you for the kind words

I actually had to clean the hood with a Magic Eraser and rubbing alcohol as it looked TERRIBLE when I bought it (I always forget to take before pictures). The roller does need to be replaced in a few months due to it being the original one and some bristles are missing.

"I always forget to take before pictures"

You and me both! When I get a vacuum, I try to remind myself to, but then always get carried away and before I know it I have no proof of what the cleaner used to look like!

Anyways, I never would have guessed that your Elite looked shabby; it looks great. The hood doesn't look gouged and the decals are intact. Be careful with the rubbing alcohol, though...high concentration rubbing alcohol + magic eraser might = erased decals.

I use a spray bottle of car paint detailing spray and microfiber towels to clean my new acquisitions. Tough paint marks are precisely targeted with a magic eraser and detail spray. I try to use the eraser sparingly because sometimes it can haze up a previously glossy finish.

After the cleaning, I then use Carnuba spray wax, recommended to me by man114, to restore a glossy finish to the plastic.
