Where to buy Royal Type H bags in Canada?

I purchased a Royal Model 5000 earlier today - my first hand vac! I'm very excited to get it in three or four weeks.

It's in such beautiful condition that it pains me to think that I might have to use it without a disposable bag, and get the cloth bag dirty, but I can't for the life of me find a source of Type H bags in Canada! Not even NOS units on eBay. The best I've found is on eVacuumStore, which after shipping from the US and the exchange rate, would be $30. For three bags!

Anyone have a secret place up their sleeve that sells Type H bags with affordable shipping to Canada? Alternatively, is there another disposable bag that could be made to fit? The Type J bags look like they could possibly be cut to fit, but that's me having no idea how big around the cardboard end is.

I use mine to clean my sofa. Everyday. I have two big dogs. The paper bags will severely reduce the suction and airflow, even when the paper bag is empty. You won't get but a spoon full of dirt in them before there is no suction at all. Use the machine with the cloth bag alone for best cleaning results. The cloth bag can be hand washed.

If you feel the need to, you can check your local eBay site for these out-of-print disposable bags (ebay.ca; although most such listings, if at all, will be in the US). Otherwise, do as Tom Gasko suggested: just use your machine with the cloth bag by itself for best air flow.

i contstructed a HEPA bag to fit it....I think I used a type O. took some glueing etc but work nicely. So true what dysonman1 wrote about the suction going down with paper bags.

Oh, it would absolutely be a non-issue in normal times. I live on the border and actually have a PO box in Maine, but my NEXUS lapsed earlier this year and they are taking their sweet time renewing it.

I have a friend in the States, and we occasionally send packages to each other, so I'll buy a set and have them sent to her for next time she sends a package. But per your guys' recommendation, I'll try it with just the cloth bag too.

Have you seen this video by SpatsBear demonstrating two different 501s (one from the late 1950s/early 1960s, and the other from 1993)?

Later on, he demonstrates them with the type H disposable bags.

To update this thread, I did end up buying a set of three bags on eBay, to be shipped to my American friend to ship to me at a later date. However, the seller never shipped them, and refunded me upon request, with no explanation. So last week I purchased a set of (supposedly genuine) bags from eVacuumStore. To date it doesn't say they have shipped yet.

Cool video

That video struck a chord with me since I have almost the same two Royal hand vacs. My blue one is a 1988 model and my red and gray one is a 501 from sometime in the '60s. I've also got another blue one that's from 1986, I think. The serial number is partially scuffed off. It's identical to the 1988 model except it doesn't have the switch guard. I found it last summer in its original box with all its accessories and paperwork except for its dusting brush but I found I had an extra one that had gone to a Douglas ATV shop vac I'd gotten rid of. It's identical to the original, except it's taupe instead of white. Oh well, it was good enough to keep me from spending money on one.

I have to agree they're powerful little machines, great for furniture and spot cleaning. I run mine with the Type H disposable bags. I'm not sure what I'll do when my modest supply runs out. I may have to go back to what I did when I got the first one and its cloth bag was absolutely crammed full of pet hair and just suck it out with a shop vac. I've never been a big fan of transferring dirt like that but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

It's also concerning to me that while replacement belts are readily available and not outrageously priced, brush rolls are pretty much unavailable and I could use at least one. I almost bought a plastic Dirt Devil hand vac at Goodwill last summer, just for the brush roll. It was only $4 or $5 and I probably should have done it. I'm in a self-imposed exile from thrift stores right now because I was buying too damn much stuff I didn't need. I don't know how long this will last and maybe I'll keep an eye out for a cheap Dirt Devil handheld whenever I begin letting myself cross the threshold again.

@human - Here's the link to the bags sold in eVacuumStore. You could get 15 of them for $20 with free shipping. The picture is of a different bag, but they assured me that they are indeed Type H bags, and the picture is just wrong. And supposedly they're genuine? We'll see when mine come in.
