I needed a break from working on my Hoover 725 last night, so I pulled a Kirby 513 off of my "to do" shelf and quickly dismembered it to begin cleaning. When I pulled the armature out, I discovered a bit of a surprise. What appeared to be a member of the widow family had made a little nest in the cooling fan. So, I did what any rational person would have done. I screamed like a girl, got the blow torch out, and eradicated it from the earth, along with its unborn children.

Hi Brandon,

Remember to take pictures of the Kirby after you have cleaned it up.

I hope you managed to stop screaming. Screaming for long periods can give you a sore throat

James,

It won't be anything spectacular, it was factory rebuilt in 1995, so of course it has been stripped of all its original trim and replaced with tan blahness. It was however, the cleanest field coil I've seen to date, minus the abomination lurking within. I plan on using it as my "daily driver" once completed. The 516 I currently have in service could use a day at the spa.

Too bad you couldn't have RUN the Kirby before taking it apart-----then--CHOPPED BW Spider!!!Find these guys--or is it gals--here at the transmitter site-they especially like tranmsitter blower rooms-HEAT and LOTS of bugs to eat!!!Pick them up in the company vacuums-then stomp the bag!!!BW spiders hate to be graphic--have pink or even yellow white insides!Hate those things!!!!Other times I have encountered those things their remains are on the bottom of my shoe sole!Get them before they get me!BW spiders BITE first and discuss the matter later! That one shown sure likes your Kirby motor rotor! One time while mixing my breakfast drink in my VitaMix blender-started it and the remains of a large, chopped roach flew out of its motor!GROSS!VM blender motors-like Kirby motors have nice large, cooling fans.
