I got an early Birthday gift today. What a beauty she is and will NEVER see any dirt in her hose! Even the hang tag is silver to match the vacuum. It looks smart no matter where it sits! Can't imagine why they would discontinue theis beautiful cleaner.

I have no idea why Hoover would discontinue this either. But have you seen any of the companies we all know and love make intelligent decisions lately? The stainless on wood setting is stunning! You could leave it in your living room or rec room year round and nobody would call you down on it.

This Connie is very very quiet. It has a longer hose than the white Connie and I think the black tools look very smart against the stainless finish. Looks good just sitting out. Of course that is coming from a vac lover. She will go back in her box very soon. Fred, you and Mike were correct, the pictures don't do it justice. It's almost like something Hoover would have produced many years ago.

Thanks for your comments Norm and Alex. Do any of you guys remember when Hoover had the slogan "What's round like a ball, floats like a feather and cleans as only a Hoover can?" I am sure this was on some advertising they did for the early Constellation. My mom gave it to me today and it was a total surprise. We had fun watching it float all over her living room! She had never seen a Constellation. It's too bad Hoover doesn't make a retro Convertible that has the same quality. Everyone I have shown my White Connie to was always impressed at the quality and how quiet the machine was in operation.

Rob! I have the same stainless steel Constellation that you do, and I LOVE IT!! It cleans kitty litter almost as well as my Filter Queen 360 and Rainbow E-Series. It's a crying shame that Hoover is discontinuing this great metal cleaner for all that other plastic crap. Later, Trg

I think it will all be ok. there should be a lot on ebay and craigslist at real good affordable prices. why is hoover discontinuing these

It makes me sick to compare this Stainless Constelltion with any of the "plastic" Anniversary machines. I got the Windtunnel,Convertible and canister. The uprights were very cheaply made and very loud. Each machine had it's own serious desgin faults. I can say the Anniversary models had beautiful colors but it is a sad day when I really preferred my $39.95 Bissell upright to Hoover's best upright. You REALLY see the difference when as a vac collector you use any of their uprights against an older Hoover with soft horsehair brushes and beater bars compared to those cheap stiff plastic brushes they use today. I will hate to see the new "Connie" go. Can you imagine what wonderful advertising could be done with the Constellation demonstrating the "floating on air",double stretch and wrap around hose storage.

She even looks good on the counter! I looked up in my Hoover advertising and found the correct wording : "Whats round like a ball, floats like a feather, and what a cleaning job it will do". I had it almost correct! Check that neat hang tag.

Dave,
Speaking of it's size. I was surprised when talking to a couple of friends one didn't even know Hoover ever made a "tank type" cleaner and the other thought Hoover had been out of business for years! Just shows how out of touch we vac collectors are with the public perception of vacuums. When I said something about a new vac they asked if it was a Dyson or Oreck! My mother is over 80 and she had never seen a Hoover Constellation. She thought if you had a tank type you got a Air-Way or Electrolux. Just like a lot of people of my parents generation called the refrigerator the "Frigidaire" no matter what brand they owned. My family always would say we need to use the "Electrolux" today. As a child that ALWAYS got my attention!

Beautiful

Is it "official" that it's discontinued?
What an assinine idea !!!!!! Yes, a retro convertible would be great TTI will be sorry when THEY, too, see the "lackluster" string of machines that no one will want. They have it ALL right in their hands "Boss" must be doing cartwheels in his grave !!

Here's What I Know:

For the Winter issue of Modernism Magazine, where I'm an editor, I did a short story on the Connie reissue. The issue will be on stands December 15th.

As part of my research, I spoke with a source at TTI Floorcare, and I specifically asked if the new Connie was being discontinued (don't want to do stories about stuff that won't be available!). I was told that the Connie is not scheduled for discontinuance.

So, that's what I, as a member of the media, have been told by TTI's people.

Her is a picture of the bag compartment. Not even a hint of dirt on the machine. The motor is very very quiet. Wish Hoover's screeming plastic uprights were as quiet. I had information from a reliable source that AT THIS TIME it's only the deluxe Stainless Connie that is being discontinued. It really is like buying something from Hoover back in the 50's.
