The market is depressive in my opinion!!!
Every Big Box store I go to seems to have only bagless and maybe one bagged machine. Aren't consumers getting tired of breathing in dust clouds upon emptying dirt cups yet??
I'd much rather change a bag every 3 - 8 weeks depending on dirt in a home, than empty a dirt cup every single usage and sometimes more than once in a single cleaning session. Bags have gotten much more hygienic change as many have self closure tabs that seal the bag once removed. Plus many bags are rated HEPA now which keeps bag compartments clean.
Also no company seems to want to educate consumers on what really cleans. The market has people brainwashed into thinking that unless the machine draws 12 Amps of current then it isn't powerful. Most manufactures do not mention on websites what the brush roll speed, CFMs, waterlift, dual or single stage motor usage design nor other important specs.
Likewise if someone buys a washing machine, they know what water temps are available, what cycles are available and they can easily find out if there is a cycle in a top loader where the water will still fill up all the way for cleaning blankets and dirty loads better. Many manufacturers also state the RPM for the final spin speed. If a consumer buys a leaf blower, there are specs that mention MPH of air and CFM of air through the nozzle. But for buying vacuum cleaners, it's hard enough to figure out what attachments actually come with it and how tiny they are!!
