I prefer an UprightI like to back out of a room as I vacuum so as not to step on the carpet where I just vacuumed, and leave foot prints. It is just easier for me with an upright rather than kicking the canister backwards each step. Not so much of a deal when the canister has a longer hose, such as a Lux or Filter queen, even the Panasonic. Then again when you get to the end of a hallway and have to turn around the upright is easier than having to turn everything around and go into the kitchen.
