I just had a thought about what it would look like for the newer Aerus Luxes to be made with the vintage colors, like the Turquoise model g?

Or , even other vac companies restyling their modern vacuums to look vintage including mimicking the vintage colors.

What do you think?

I think ...

... "designers" these days have absolutely zero sense for the aesthetic. From clothes to cars. Probably because stuff is SO mass-produced on such a large scale, they try to make things as universally appealing as possible for a global market. Which means, of course, make everything as plain and vanilla as possible.

It's sad, actually, when you think about it. Especially if you're over 40 and can remember when everything -- right down to bottle openers -- had bright-colored flair.

I spotted a guy one fall on the subway here in New York wearing the most gorgeous zippered jersey -- medium striped -- five subtle shades of green. Like nothing you see anywhere today (unless, of course, you're taking Paul Smith, or some similar boutique marquee brand -- in which case it would have cost $800 or so). I couldn't resist asking where he got it.

The answer? "Oh, it's vintage. My uncle's. He never wore it! Bought it in 1970 -- at Sears."

SEARS!!! Even the pedestrian consumer had style back in 1970!!!

Why not? Kirby tried it with it's new vac. The bag is very retro enspired and they chose bold coloring for it. I like it but people here disparaged it. People LIKE middle of the road style I guess. I do think style wise Dyson has been the most daring. But hey, look at Sebo's Volcano vac and Kenmore's Blueberry. Very striking colors are back it would appear. I think Aerus' new Platinum looks fab and manages to simultaneously look both modern and vintage and the LCD screen looks futuristic.

If they had ANY sense!!!

They would just go back to a model G, I mean EXACTLY !GO BACK TO A REAL BRAIDED HOSE, and most of all do away with those awful plastic wands and pistol grip!

LOL

Braided hoses, ugh! Good riddance to those short, stiff, dry-rotting nightmares! I love the gas pump handle and the plastic wands, they enable far more versatility with the sidekick and power nozzle. An Aerus insider says they are creating a new power nozzle so the wands might get changed with it.

It would

be nice to go back to an old model g but you know too well that the public is not looking for antique vacuums it has to look like it belongs in this century .

If that were the case bring back Pakards , Desotos and the Model T it ain`t gonna happen .

As far as color goes they usually go by the fashion industry thats where Kirby got their Sentria II colors from .

Actually Perfect has brought out the old "super J" style of machines. (I understand they have licenced the patent rights) and they are going over very well. Alot of people would rather have that style instead of the "modern" ones

Despite older peoples' propensity to relish the past and want everything frozen in time, a Model G and a Super J are technologically obsolete. The newer ones will handily outclean and far outfilter the Model G/whatever of the past. I just can't fathom anyone thinking that an ancient design would be superior to the far and away technologically superior Platinum.

Perfect is

no where to be found on the east coast of the US .

I have yet to see one in person if it wasn`t for this forum and ebay I would have never have seen them .

They are not using retro colors with them just Gray and White so far .

Christoher ,

you couldn`t be more right if it isn`t the most technologically advanced it really wont sell .

Technilogically advanced doesn't mean better. A hoover convertible, electrolux silverado, or kirby classic omega will outclean 95% of the "technilogically advanced" crap on the market today. There is obsolutely 0 need to have circuitboards on something that for 80+ years workedjust fine without it. Just because it has the ability to utilize it,by no means justifies it needing it. Kirby hasn't ever used circuit boards on their machines except for the led headlights. The transmissions on the g series are even all mechanical. Consumer reports year after year ranks kirby at the top for performance. Is it's design not the newest and bells and whistles out there? No, but it gets the job done well and right.

All you have to do..

Is look, There is NOTHING built today with anything even closely resembling the quality of what was made in the 50s and 60s, that goes for anything built, especially appliances both large and small, for example, there is not a range on the market today that is all porcelean, there is also not a range on the market with a platform light on it, and the porcelian on the top is so sorry you can chip it without even trying, as for cleaning ability, I have a 1957 Apex strato cleaner I will put up against ANYTHING built today !And as far as cars go, plastic will never be as good as real steel and real chrome!

Re blow dust!

I still maintain that a electrolux bag is darn near perfect and they came out in 1952!, the Airway also blows NO dust, neither does a Filter Queen. But these so called bagless contraptions are the worst dust blowers on the market!

Vintage machines are fun to own and use. It's fun to revisit the past from time to time but as far as using one for everyday usage, I wouldn't want to. They are not sealed and are not efficient filterers. I can see the beauty in a XXX, but not the G. I don't find anything particularly appealing about a Model G. It's one of the plainer models. I think ANY post 1205 model looks far better, especially the Silverado! Not only does the Platinum look better, it cleans better, filters FAR better, and it has the Sidekick, which I love!
