Wessel-Werk brush with Kenmore vacuum

Saw something interesting for sale. It's a "Kenmore Power Mate" branded powered brush but is's manufactured by Wessel-Werk. I believe it is an older EBK290 but I could be wrong. I know almost nothing about their powered brushes.

The electrical connections on the hose end of the wand are not compatible with any Sears Kenmore hose I am familiar with, and the electrical connection on the bottom of the wand that the powered brush plugs in to through a short cord appears to be female rather than male as one finds on standard Kenmore wands. This thing is kind of an odd duck.

So I have three questions. Does anyone have any idea what this beast is and what vacuum(s) it may have been teamed with? Second, is anyone aware of a wand that allows one to use a Wessel-Werk brush with a Kenmore hose, or failing that, the third question is there a short adapter cord that would permit connecting the Wessel-Werk cord with a standard Kenmore wand?

Interesting, never heard of that particular Kenmore. I think I found at least one place that sells central vacuum systems and is a Wessel-Werk dealer that can make a wand for me.

Btw, I am curious about the opinions of the Wessel-Werk powered brush, I think it's an EBK290. It is a motor driven brush, not air driven. What are people's experiences with them and with Wessel-Werk products in general?

Magic Blue Wessell Werk PN

Blackheart, that pic you linked to was for a early model. LG chose to replace this PN with their own PN shortly after, which presumably would have been better since this Wessell PN uses soft brushes. Kenmore probably ordered it changed to lower production costs.

DesertTortoise, please note that wand & PN neck in the pic is one of a kind, would have been designed especially for that head. And will not fit any other Wessell PN or Kenmore/Panasonic/Hayden/Centec PN. Probably made by Wessell Werk to LG's specifications for Kenmore.

Ebk 290

Here is a "standard" 290 that came with my FairFax. It uses normal wand and pigtail connections. It's an okay power head. I like to use it on my thick nap area rug because it grooms then well without being too aggressive. It must do okay on regular carpet as well because there is always plenty of soil in the bag after using it. That being said it's easy to push and the swivel neck is nice. It's easy to maneuver it into tight spaces

Kirbylux, I have been told by more than one shop that the diameters of the wands, 30 mm, are the same and the main consideration are the differences in electrical connections. One shop that is a big central vacuum distributor and Wessel-Werk dealer that also sells Haydens tells me they can make a wand to fit the Kenmore hose and that powered brush. Another central vacuum shop is looking at making a short pig tail cord to connect the Kenmore wand to that brush, which is actually my preference. No one is telling me the wands themselves won't physically fit into the head. The orientation of the button lock on the bottom of the Kenmore wand will put the power plug 180 degrees from that of the Wessel Werk wand, but the cord from the brush to the wand takes care of that. What are we all missing?

Cam2s, how has your brush treated you in terms of reliability and quietness? Do you think it would be as durable as a Hayden or Kenmore (same animal really) powered brush?

It runs very quiet and smooth and it feels very well put together. As far as pure build quality is concerned, I'd probably say it is better than a Hayden unit. I will say though that my opinion is based on my experience with the ones I own. The Wessel Werk hasn't had a whole lot of use so of course it still feels 100% solid where as the Hayden units I have have been used very heavily. Still I think the Wessel Werk would age better.

Thanks for the input. I am getting excited to pair it up with my most recent (can't use the term new on a twenty year old vacuum) Kenmore.

You know, Haydens might be sort of pedestrian but I love the fact that they are almost part for part identical to a couple of decades worth of Kenmore Powermates. Plastic upper covers are the only things that differ, and even then not by much. Late model quiet motors, serpentine belt drives and modern chevron pattern brushes used on current production Haydens drop right into old Sears Powermates. You can replace swivel necks, height adjusters and overload switches with current production Hayden parts. There is no reason to ever retire your old Powermate, they can be rebuilt on the original base with modern components.
