Recently while searching through Ebay, I came across a listing for an odd Kirby G6. It was set up as a handheld, but the headlight was removed and in its place was a weird-looking UV light device, which I assume runs off of the wiring for the headlight bulb. The device was labeled under a company called "Hygenitech", and upon looking into it more, it seems to be some kind of mattress cleaning business. Doing even more digging, I found other businesses that also use modified G-Series Kirbys to clean mattresses. Some of these headlight hood contraptions cover up the front of the head, others cover up the entire head, and I've even some that cover up the entire top half of the motor unit.
I know that Kirby already advertises use of their machines to clean mattresses, but I wasn't expecting a company to utilize/modify them for this purpose. In general I don't get why this would be necessary for just a mattress (not that I'm very well-versed on mattress cleaning to begin with). I mean, dust mites live in just about everything that people vacuum normally, so why would a mattress need to be treated any differently? Me personally, I just wash my sheets and/or vacuum my mattress with a turbo tool/upholstery tool of some kind.
Also, I'm curious about Kirby's affiliation with these companies (if there is one to begin with). Would they approve of them since they're making their own modifications to their vacuums? There's just so many questions I have about these things.
Here's the listing in question:
