Does anyone know what the technical name is for the vacuum cleaner bulbs that fit a wedge type base? The style bulb used on Hoover Elites, Bissell, Kenmore uprights, I'm sure among other brands.

I can find the bulbs online but I can't find what kind of base this is. Looking at places like Lowes or Home Depot they all look similar but are called different things.

I have one vacuum that has a burned out bulb and I want to change it for an LED which is why I ask.

The base classification as far as I know is 'wedge.' Those should be 12v automotive bulbs. That particular type has 3 or 4 different wattages just for automotive use. A quick google brought up 915, 916, 917, 918, 920, 921, which seems right to me. Any of those will work, but I don't really know which is brightest... not that it would apply to an LED counterpart.

If you're looking for LED replacements, it's important to remember you're trying to use a DC bulb on an AC supply. Only *some* LED bulbs will have a bridge rectifier and smoothing capacitor, and that's far less likely to happen in a bulb package as small as a 915. Also, do not buy any bulbs that are "canbus" because that only means they have resistors on board to burn off some wattage as heat, so there would be no economical advantage over regular bulbs, and they would run hot like incandescents as well.
