I've had very good luck dealing with various online shopping sites. It's the typical classified sites and other common auction sites. I almost always leave feedback and it's positive. Rarely, like only twice in the last 6 months, is it negative.

Recently, however, like within the space of a week, I had 3 bad experiences. It's said that bad things come in threes; I hope that's the case.

I won't use the name of the site it happened on because they are Not the responsible party. I will simply refer to the site as E-hay.

Three sellers to avoid :

cadillacvacshack- bought a vacuum from and sent a simple note at purchase asking them to carefully package item as my experience has been failure to pack correctly has resulted in damages (with other sellers). He basically stuck the vac in a two plastic bags and put it in a box and shipped it off. Luckily, it wasn't damaged. I sent him a note letting him know he was lucky and may not be so lucky next time. Call this constructive criticism.

How do I know?

When confronted with his fraud, all he could do is try and evade responsibility. "Oh your vacuum is broken" or "you shouldn't have so much time to collect vacuums " (?)

It was everyone elses fault, certain nothing to do with him.

I initiated a return and got my money back, of course. But what an idiot. Got negative feedback and he responded to that with another lie.

This idiot responded with a blunt- "It won't be bubble wrapped" The moron shoved the vacuum into a box that was too short for, even before adding foam padding to protect the vac, the likes of which, there was NONE. Again, two plastic bags was all that was in the box. (?) He placed the filthy power nozzle directly on top the machine with no protection, at all. In short, the item was damaged.

He earned himself instant negative feedback. Yesterday, after at least a week. he comes on with the middle school level, ignorant, defensive b.s. "It's Fedex's fault, blah, blah, blah". No apology.

I told him HE is to blame. I have only left 1 negative feedback on Ebay and Ebay let that person leave negative feedback on me, when I didn't do anything wrong, but tell the truth. I have always paid as soon as the auction is over and I was correct to leave negative feedback. With that said I won't leave negative feedback unless Ebay changes their policy, which they may have by now. It took over a year to get my 100percent feedback back due to a terrible ebayer. I even disputed it with Ebay.

This still po's me to this very day and it's been at least 7 or 8 or 9....years ago.

When I buy something I am not satisfied with, I just don't leave feedback. It's not worth it to me.

Luckily, I think I have all my childhood memory vacs, thanks to some people on this forum. Although, I am still looking for an Electro Hygiene canister that my mom bought from a door to door salesman....in the 50's.

Sincerely,

This is not a warning against an eBay seller but against UPS.

Some of y'all may recall that around three months ago I bought two vintage floor polishers from an eBay seller who is a member of this forum. The LAZY IDIOT at the UPS Store who boxed up the polishers did not use one shred of packing material, he just dumped the two heavy polishers into a very flimsy carton.

By the time the UPS gorillas tossed and banged the box across the country, the polishers' plastic housings were cracked and broken; one of them was smashed to bits. Naturally, the one that was the most damaged was a very rare model, one that I had never seen before and likely will never see again.

I filed a UPS claim and am still, three months later, awaiting a refund from them.

I have never bought on FleaBay, but i have had most of my vacuums shipped. Incompetent sellers are the blame, but they wont man up enough to admit it's their fault. Ive had as many vacuums and parts come damaged, as not
Andy

I buy all the time on Ebay even from around the world & have not had any bad experiences from either the sellers or whoever delivers it. Even from the 3 mentioned above in start of this thread I've bought from & no problem. Every box I get is very well packed even with those dreadfull packing peanuts that seem to go everywhere when you open the box but I just get my leaf blower & it takes care of everything.

Charles-

I had a claim with a UPS store back in December, for bad packaging.

It took 45 to 60 days to get the check.

Apparently, the claim starts with the store, then goes to corporate. From there corporate sends the check, not to the shipper/receiver, but the store. Then the store pays you.

Stay on them. Call them nicely, every week to find out the status. It wouldn't be a bad idea to contact both UPS corporate, and the UPS store, to make sure the stories match. Remind them you WON'T forget about this.

They of course, hope you'll forget.

It the same thing with rebates from stores. The stores know that there is only a fraction of people that ACTUALLY send in the paperwork to redeem rebates. Somewhere around 40%, if I remember right. That means the stores keep the difference.

Menards (similar to Home Depot, but regional) was offering several rebates in the last 2 months, including a 11% rebate on ALL PURCHASES, which recently ended. I've bought quite a bit of stuff there, I'm not proud to admit.

Anyway, I thought I'd pick up the form they have in self serve envelopes at the front of the store, so I could get all my receipt claims mailed in tomorrow. I needed 3 different forms for about 12 receipts.

Amongst all the form envelopes they had, none of the 3 I needed were there. I asked the girl at the desk where they were. She had them right there on the desk and grabbed them to hand to me. "Why aren't they out here?" I asked. "Because those promotions have ended" She said.

But the mailing dates are anywhere from July 9th to the 16th, so rightfully people can take all way up to the last date to get them in the mail.

They were just hoping people would forget about them, even though the form is readily available on line, and they had the forms right there on their desk. Also plenty of room on the rack for the forms.

If people would just take responsibility for their actions this world would be a better place. I’ve ran into a few people both inside and outside the collecting community who simply refuse to take responsibility for their actions. I firmly believe in what goes around comes around or in other words, you reap what you sow. Some people call it Karma it’s basically the same principal.

So Erik I'm sorry what happened to you. The seller needs to take responsibility.

Thank goodness you finally got your money, Charles. Even though they took their sweet time.

My experience with UPS (their freight division) has lately been underwhelming, to say the least.

Two deliveries that didn't come for days after their scheduled date and time. A third with some major damage (a wand from one box impaled through a steel plate in another box -- took some serious force to do that).

I wish my main vendor (MD Manufacturing in Bakersfield) would use a different carrier, but "free shipping" means they pick who they want.

Fed Ex is a much better shipper. I had a problem with UPS, with a rebuilt Kirby G5. The box was dropped and dented. When I opened it up the back wheel had broken off. Called Kirby and they wanted me to ship it back to them at no charge to fix, but since it wasn't Kirby's fault, I asked them to send me the wheel clip and rear wheel, which they did. I spent two or more hours trying to get the wheel clip on, I even bought a tool at the hardware store for it.....I ended up buying a package of wheel clips on Ebay and finally got one on. That was several years back and it works like new after the Kirby Rebuilding and wheel was fixed. There must be a real trick to putting the wheel clips on........
