Vintage NIB and NOS vacuums and parts, to use or not to

Ok so first off I will say that I have not found anything close to new in box vintage vacuums, Most of my finds need massive restoration but I have found a few new old stock parts.

But after searching ebay recently and seeing a few NIb machines it got me thinking.
To use or not to use.
Not using them and keeping them all wrapped up and in their box would preserve them for the future, Displaying them all unused in a nice environment would be a better option But personally I would want to use it. I would love to be the first person to use a NIB vintage machine . To me that would be the best part.

I found a NIB Hoover Porta-Power many years ago, when cleaning out a Rental House for my father. I opened it, and have since been using it for small jobs. As Nice as it is to know that it was Brand New when I got it, I deeply regret opening it to this day. Same with old Parts...if there are a ton out there its fine, but I prefer not to unless I absolutely must.

I agree i would not use it but i love to clean my Compact Electra C9 is pretty much brand new after a restoration so i use it as my daily driver
now my Electrolux AP 200 is brand new in box i use it alot i cannot help it i have it so it will be use to mea vacuum is to be used and clean whit its new time to play that just me i cannot have some thing sitting doing nothing .

I like to use them.  That's part of my enjoyment is to see and feel them working.

NOS parts...

If you're restoring something, doing so with NOS parts can be a nice touch and in some cases may be an attractive choice when the part is no longer being made or reproduced and the only other alternative is a used part. But sometimes time can take a toll on such parts, even if they have never been used. In such cases, it's better to leave them unused.

The way I figure it is: they can't put the NOS vacs into the grave with me. USE THEM. They were meant to be used, never meant to stay in a box forever. Same with NOS parts. Use them.

This was my most sought after machine, A Unique to SA Electrolux 404.
My gran had one and I loved the bag. with the logo all over it.

It took years to find another but I did.

The bag was very faded though

About two years ago I got a call from a widow who's husband had worked at Electrolux SA most of his life.
She had a Garage full of parts and in their were 3 brand new bags for the 404.

One went straight onto the machine, One was kept for any future finds and one was sent to my fellow collector and friend Heinrich in Pretoria for his 404 that was missing a bag

I think it looks so much better with new bag

be my comment. Without being morbid, unless you plan for your stuff to be redistributed somehow after you pass....all it is, is junk. 


 


I see nothing wrong with using NOS or NIB items. Do what gives YOU the most pleasure. If it rocks your world to see them stay NOS & NIB, keep them that way. But don't let anyone else inflict guilt upon you for using NIB or NOS parts.
