Very Rare Rainbow

Help Support VacuumLand:

This is a nice set ! I personnally own a D2 (I often call it R2D2) that I didn't buy on purpose. I'm a fan of old Electrolux's, and the day I bought the D2 , it was because someone had lots of vacuum cleaner stuff for sale, including several ELux's ( 7 or 8 of them, with many brushes, etc). Basically I wasn't interested in anything else but I couldn't resist when I saw this weird thing. The guy accepted my 25$ offer.

It works pretty well, I find it noisy compared to my other machines. My girlfriend says the floor feels a lot cleaner under her feet when I use it, compared to when I use any of my Elux's, probably because the water catches every dust particle.

dysonman1, thank U 4 bringing me memories about the rare Rainbow

Several yrs ago (around mid/late 80s) a family friend of mine had one exactly like yours

Every time my family went to see them I wanted to 'play around' with the Rainbow, but the elderly lady said 'hands off!' they didn't want it to be broken

It seemed like back in the '80s many folks had interesting vacs; I wonder how many folks today have anything that interesting? I've pretty much outgrown the habit of 'snooping' other people's closets (my parents always got on me for this when I was younger) to see what vac they had

The D2 is a model D (like my gold one) but with an included power nozzle receptacle. There were no motor changes. Rexair went from 1955 through late 1979 with the same motor. The D "2" came out in 1974.

Every blue moon I pull it out and use it (with the battery power Perfect power nozzle) to clean with. Maybe once a year. There are 29 other vacuums in the house "on rotation" because who can use the same vacuum week after week!

I was....

all gun-ho to get like a D2......but then I heard about the ash, talc and other substances that just bounce off the water and go back out.

Still, we always had one growing up for dog hair and dust on hard floors.
