V.C.C.C.
Hi Kirby Collector:
The V.C.C.C. was started in January of 1983 as a resource center, and place for people interested in the history of vacuum cleaners. There was a by-monthly newsletter which in time became a quarterly. At that time the membership was free and expences were low due to the fact there were only 6 members aside from founder, co-founder, secretary, and assistant editor. At that time there was no age restriction but you had to be 18 to be on the mailing list, and I think thats still the age of membership. At that time our members were all in their 20's and 30's. As for the club, it was there to help fellow collectors share ideas, gather information on a given brand or get help with repairs, reseration and so on.
In May of 1985, we held our first anual meeting in Chesterton, Indiana, and the next 7 were held in Naperville, Illinois before going to other places like Hoover in 94, and Allentown, PA. in 95. Please understand, back then there was no internet, we communicated by phone, mail, or through the newsletter. Sometime in the late 90's, or early 2000's we were launched into cybrespace and this is when the club began to grow.
I can't answer questions on membership for a 14 year old, but in the early days he was a guest of the club, and the parent was the member. He was free to attend the meetings, (now conventions) as long as there was a parent, or guardian with him. Fact is the club is open to everybody who meets the requirements.

By the way my username refers to the cat sitting on my lap in the picture. Caligula was the club mascot, and the name means 'Little Boots' in Latin.
