Hello everyone!

I am proud to share with you all my new YouTube channel, VacuuMotion! I plan to upload not only vacuum refurbishments, but also tell the stories behind and demonstrate most, if not all, of the vacuums in my collection.

To help grow the channel, I am accepting video requests from you all. If you would like to see me demonstrate any of the vacuums I have shared here on Vacuumland, please let me know here or on my channel. Finding the Royal vacuum in the Goodwill "reject" pile---shows how stupid gen public is when it come to good vacuums.Only a good "vacuumist" such as one of us recognizes how good the Royals are!!Great find!!!The gen public is so focusted on the bagless plasticrap machines.

Thanks for posting them, I'm a big Royal upright vac fan so I appreciate your effort in making a good video about it!!

I think the S7 is essentially the same as Miele's U1 upright model....if not, I'd be interested in learning the differences . I own one and like it to a point....it doesn't have the airflow #'s for deep cleaning ( the consensus points to this who've tested them) and they are heavy on the arm to use them, but, I do like them for their relative quietness....and easy function of onboard tools. This works fine for overall, b/c I have deeper cleaning machines to make up for the shortcomings of the U1.

Thank you for sharing your videos! I am amazed and somewhat angry at how so many people will discard such great vacuums and especially at their original purchase prices! Must be nice to be so wealthy you don’t have to think about tossing out an $800 vacuum because you were too stupid to get the bag retainer clip repaired Before using it! Jeeze. That would have been a simple repair to prevent all that mess! But it just goes to show HOW durable and well made the Miele is.. you’d not have such an easy time fixing a cheaper plastic vacuum. You made your Red Miele look practically brand New! Congrats on such a fantastic refurb and she sounds so smooth and running well now! Thanks for saving another great vacuum from the landfill!

Your videos are great! I love the way you edit them and you are very informative and have a pleasant voice and made great points during both videos. Thank you especially for the Miele video as I love my S7580 Swing Automatic. Mine is dated 3/2012, I bought it as a gift to myself for quitting smoking cigarettes. I saved the money I was spending on them and frighteningly in about 3 months, I had $800 saved and I drove to a William Sonoma Store and bought it gleefully! I’ve prided myself on Not smoking ever again since 2011.

Anyway, thank you for the inside look at the inner workings of this great vacuum and WOW.. Love your Royal too! I have always wanted to own a Royal like yours too, but have not found one or had the opportunity to own one yet. I also like how you mentioned the comparison between a Kirby regarding motor, power, etc. that was very informative. I only own one Kirby at the moment, a Kirby Sentria 2 and funny thing, I bought that model just because I love the Taupe/Tan trim and Funky Teal patterned vacuum bag. My collection is eclectic with some purchase only made because of the looks, color and aesthetics of the vacuum, not like my Miele that was bought on pure Merit and it’s sterling reputation for quality.

Best of luck on your new YouTube channel, I will follow and look forward to your future videos! I will be going through your posts here to see what vacuums you own and as you mentioned I might offer a few suggestions myself for future videos. Thank you for the opportunity to share in your work with Vacuums and Excellent work so far! Congratulations! @tolivac -- I agree; people today don't seem to appreciate Royal vacuums anymore. Most who came across this vacuum probably thought that it was a lot older than it really was. Thank you!


@rivsg1 -- Thank you! I'm pleased to hear that you enjoyed the Royal video, too! As for the differences between the S7/U1: honestly, I have no idea!

Prior to finding my S7, I had never owned a German vacuum and was actually on the hunt for one. When I saw the opportunity to have this one, I jumped on it because surely even a ruined Miele would be worth what I paid. It was a spur-of-the-moment purchase and I knew very little about the vacuum. I still do, but I'm very thankful to have it!

Perhaps Patrick or someone else here could fill us in on the differences between the S7 and the U1. Off looks alone, I would guess that they are close to identical.

I enjoy seeing your vacuums, too, because you seem to have an interesting, well kept collection. Your Miele looks downright luxurious.

New Royals are expensive, indeed. The current CR5128Z, which, feature-wise, is identical to my 1020Z, will set you back $400 at some retailers today. I like the vacuum, but it wouldn't be in my house today if it cost me much more than the $5 I paid for it.

I'm always open to suggestions!

I made a slight nozzle height adjustment on on of my Royals-amazed at how MUCH better it worked-for a large part with very thick carpet as I have ignore the Rite Height indicator and adjust sort of like with a Kirby-low enough where you hear the brush hitting the carpet-NO lower!Otherwise the nozzle will "clamp" to the floor.

Hey!

From what I remember being told when I bought mine and from what I can gather online, there are only a few differences between the Miele S7 like mine and the U1 Miele Uprights sold now. I found the Red Tango Spec Sheet to show it’s comparable to my Silver S7580. (See Pic 1)

The biggest difference is the Electronic “Automatic” controls with Six settings (Including Quiet Mode) that can be made by pushing the + or - button and the Fully Automatic Setting which adjust the suction according to what surfaces you are vacuuming. I typically leave mine in Automatic Mode for floor cleaning and use the specific suction settings to clean my upholstered furniture and drapes, etc.

The second things I can see are different on my S7580 are indicator lights on the Electronic Panel, I have a lights that indicate the following: Automatic Button lights when in full Auto Mode. There is a Light when the Vacuum Overheats. A Light that indicates the Powerbrush is On. A Powerbrush “Jam” Light that shows a block or if you suck up a Sock, etc. and finally a Service Indicator Light, that reminds you to change the HEPA filter. (See Pic 2)

I can’t find information on the U1 but I think my S7580 has a longer cord too possibly?? It’s massive long at 39.5 Foot Long Cord. Also, my Miele was from William Sonoma since we didn’t have a Miele Dealer close to me when I bought it so My Miele S7 came with a bunch of extra stuff. Besides a Box of Bags and one extra HEPA Filter, I received the SMC20 Micro Cleaning Tool Kit, the SFD20 Flexible Crevice Tool, the STB20 Flexible Mini Turbo Brush, the SUB20 Flexible Dusting Brush, the SBD10 Extra Wide Upholstery Brush, The SMD10 Mattress Tool and my Favorite, the SBB300-3 Parquet Twister Floorhead. It honestly felt like Christmas morning with ALL that was included!

So I hope that helps and if anyone else knows more or has input, please let us know. I would be curious to see what was different. Oh and it was originally almost $1,000 but I got mine on “Sale” for $799. So I know they were priced a bit higher, probably due to the Auto-Eco Electronic Controls.

First off thank you so much for using a tripod! I will just comment the way that you removed the motor cover without first removing the wheels it's pretty problematical. Not proper service technique . You can break the rear cover by doing this. Of course on a $30 used vacuum who cares?

Thank you! I'm a fan of your channel, so it's nice to hear from you.

I wasn't aware that I was running the risk of breaking anything. Where would it have broken? Honestly, it was incredibly straightforward to get the rear cover off; there were 5 (maybe 6?) screws holding on, and once they were out, the cover just lifted off without binding.

After I properly timed the rear wheel gears--big teeth on vacuum body into big valleys on the rear wheel pinion gears--it refitted like a glove. I can see how removing the rear wheels could ease the timing, but I could spot the teeth well enough from the rear of the nozzle that it wasn't a problem.
