Okay I have been on a mission lately to find a mid-90's early 2000's Eureka Boss. I have been checking high and low, and every store that I can find, as well as Craigslist. On a recent drive through Cedar Rapids I stopped in a local shop and found one, they guy wanted $130 for a "refurbished" one. I was able to talk him down to $90 but no lower. I am wondering what everyone's strategies for finding machines, and getting them for a reasonable price.

mine is pretty much wait till one shows up 
i have a couple of "scouts" so thats kinda helpful but otherwise just hope itll show up. One time i got a call from a friend that a local thrift store had one of the eurekas with the magic tough feature and the cord winder (the name ever escapes me- vanguard?), so i had my mom drive me over as fast as she could and i ran in asked and the guy said "we just sold the last one we had in iventory at the moment- i think it was a eureka" I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I swear I don't find them, they find me anymore. LOL
My mom's neighbor called me over to take his old vacuum in the shed out to the curb for him, that's how I found my Tri Star CXL (w/power nozzle), a week later another neighbor near me had one setting out curbside (minus the power nozzle). Both just in need of a good clean up.
I just gave away a Boss probably the exact same age as your searching for. : ( They're nice vacs, hope you find one soon.

They jump out at me as well, unless they are deep in the dumpster! Have to listen hard to hear their cries.

Don't try so hard; you'll find one. Most vacs have been made in the tens of thousands, so they're around. Just wait until one comes along. The Boss vacs that I'm thinking about are better made than the typical Eureka China-vac that is marketed today. Even $90 is way too high a price for one of these, in my opinion. When you stumble across one when you aren't actively looking, it will be for much less than that.
