I have a very ropey 638; the id plate reads 400 watts and is fitted with the 612 type spring cord protector/ guide down at the handle adjustment assembly.
I have never seen the above type of arrangement on a 638 before.
When in the production run did hoover decided to reduce the motor wattage from 400 to 325?
