Here is another rare instance of the actual price being higher than the shipping! :-D Nowadays, people are setting flat fees higher than the cost of the actual item for the simple reason of paying for the least amount of shipping and keeping the rest! I can't stand it!

But grr!! Most Hoovers with their original plugs don't cost that much money? Is it rare? I am not extremely knowledgeable about Hoover, so can you tell me, Seamus?

Hoover plugs

Hey Kyle

I will try to make this quick...ish

The first Hoover Cleaners sold over here were fitted with lampholder type connectors(we use a bayonet cap as opposed to the Edison screw as standard- think of a larger version of the lamp cap on a Convertible and you should get the idea).

From the late 20s up till approx 1960 Hoover cleaners were fitted with the type of plug in this auction. The pins are adjustable to fit the (VERY obsolete) 5 or 15 amp outlet with round pins Hoover also supplied a bayonet adaptor for those customers without power points.

HOWEVER post war models until approx 1955 when most models were compliant with the British standard for double insulation were(with the possible exception of the Dustette) fitted with a 3 conductor cord with an earth/ground wire I will post a pic of the instrruction tag on my 375 Junior that explains the procedure for earthed outlets.

From approx 1960 and for over 30 years Hoovers were supplied(as were 99% of UK appliances) without a fitted plug- you brought one and fitted it yourself!- or the shop fitted one for you :).

This changed in approx 1995 and now all appliances have to have a factory fitted plug- very sensible !

Thanks Seamus! Very interesting indeed! I just got a Hoover 105 from a friend with the original (possibly) plug on it. It is marked "Hoover" but it has been restored by Hoover. It does run, in fact! It is the Special, I believe! What is the age of this machine? Thanks Seamus!!

The age of the 375....

Hey Kyle

Its one of the last of this model which was replaced in July 1950 by the 119(your 115). As you will see by the pics it was actually sold 3 months AFTER production had stopped!

Seamus

Here is a serial# list for the 375
