Tristar CS Motor Followup

Hi Guys,

Going to finally re-motor the CS tomorrow with the EXL motor mount. My question is Amps and draw on my breakers in my 1952 home. It looks like the Lamb 119800 around 11.2 amps will be ok to pair with the power nozzle of 1.2 amps. My preference is to stick with Electro Motor as they have been super helpful. Really nice to spend an hour talking to the engineer that designed the motor at Electrolux for the 6500 vacuum.

So 12.4 Amp max on the 6500-288 with 560 AW, 135 water lift and 125 cfm plus power nozzle of 1.2 amps or 6500-298 with 117 water lift, 114 cfm and 439 aw @ about 10.3 amps plus power nozzle? I want the 288 but Elecytro thinks the 298 is the safe choice here. I believe that is the same as the Lighthouse upgrade talked about here.

Your thoughts guys? I know the Lamb is a great choice too. I don't want to trip breakers or have a super warm cord like the Miele Marin and SEB 236 always has. Cost is $91-$115 on all 3 and the Electr Motors would come directly from the manufacturer in Piney Flats.

I'd opt for the slightly more skookum motor. Either one should be fine on a 15A circuit. If the cord gets warm, replace the cord with one using heavier-gauge wire (14ga should suffice, the existing cord is probably 16ga, but if the existing one is 14ga, then use a 12ga replacement.)

The 6500-288 might be beefy enough that you'd have issues with the nozzle sticking down, however.

Put the motors pre cs the motors from dxl. The 2 motors mentioned burn up alot quicker than the motors your looking st.
The motor in patriot the arc motor would be another better alternative.
If you have to re wire outlets a breakers to get a vacuum to work why not just get a central vacuum.

Brian, I would use the 6500-298 motor. I have used it in my Lux 9000 that's custom built, and I also have the Ametek Advantek Perfect C101 motor in my 1992 Kenmore EVPC. It pulls about 125" waterlift.

My experience with both these motors is that you MUST have some kind of suction control in the vacuum you install your super-powered motor in. In my Kenmore EVPC, on some rugs, the Kenmore beater bar powerhead will clamp down and not move - you have to reduce the suction either with the slide variable power switch on the hose handle, or open the suction control ring a little bit. I haven't encountered the issue....yet....on my custom built Lux 9000 with it's black Lux Legacy powerhead. It could be due to the design of the Lux powerhead though. But, with the TriStar CS, the problem you're going to have is, that suction relief valve is pretty small, so you're relying on the Lux powerhead design to ensure you won't have clamping issues on any carpets you use your super-powered TriStar. If I am already seeing this issue with my Kenmore EVPC, and both are similar in power, I would imagine you might as well. Best to err on the side of caution and not go too overpowered.

If you really do prefer Ametek, the other 2 options you have are the Ametek Advantek motor from the Perfect C101. The disadvantage that motor has though is it's disposable - it doesn't appear to have been designed to have the carbon brushes replaced when worn down. But that makes sense - with the power it produces, the armature and other components would probably be at the end of their lifespan when the carbon brushes are toast. Then there's the double stage motor from the Numatic Henry canisters - not quite as powerful, but they do pull a respectable 110" waterlift. Both these motors and the 6500-298 are all the same dimensions too, so no need to modify the blower basket on the TriStar.
