Just thought I would showcase this beautiful top of the line 1972 Eureka Vanguard golden beauty.

A fine machine on loan from the fabulous collection of Greg Nunn. :)

I have had it for quite some time, just never took some really good pictures of it.

And you can be sure those are true Eureka carpet lines! My dad was thoroughly impressed with them.

Boy....was I ever dumb to sell my parents' Gold Cordaway Rugulator 2083 for $40 several years ago. Had no idea that in the world of vacuum cleaners, this one was one of the best Eureka ever sold.....

Oh Goldie......where are you? :-(

Yes it does have the power switch in the handle, as well as a two speed switch. Its the very top model offered for the time.

The toggle switch should actually have 3 settings: "low" with Power Touch activated, "high" with Power Touch activated, and "attachments" which gives you high power and no Power Touch. The attachment setting bypasses the Power Touch bar in the handle to keep the motor constantly on for tool use.

To make it easier to set the Rugulator, always adjust it with the handle in storage position while you tilt the handle back to lift up the front of the cleaner. This makes it easier to slide the adjuster.

Ah! Thats how it works. I kinda figured. I just leave it in high or low speed.

I need to get the missing piece for the cord winder clip so the cord will lock when pulled out. Right now I have to hold the cord out when vacuuming and I will tell you, that cord winder has a darn good pull!

I think it allows for the top of the bag to expand more, but honestly, I don't think its that much of a difference. The bag was just over the top in pattern design. Kind of frail though.

cord clip

Until you find the right part try an old fashioned clothes pin with strong spring. Can also be used with some canister winders that wont lock.

Box Top....

I actually think the boxy top of the bag indeed allows for more airflow.

The Eureka F&G bag drops the dirt down from the top of the bag and so the top is actually where the air enters and exits the bag. Without the box top, the bag can get a bit squished just where it needs room to breath.

i can see....

Eurekas frame of thinking (and part of me thinks that they wanted to maybe compete with the large bag idea that made Kirby have such TREMENDUS air flow). but when i use my Box top upright...i really feel nor hear and really major diffrence, but kudos to them for trying...=)

Hey Brandon,

WOW great Eureka loving the 70's styling great find.

We never had box top bags in OZ, I think Hoover only did a couple of models in the US with this type of bag ? I have a JC Penny one, does anyone know how many models they did and maybe why they did do more..?

And did anyone else do them.

Mark
