Hey
I have all the parts to put my d80s together. I soldered shorter wirrs so they won't get hit by Armiture. Commuter brush holder look very close to commuter on armature.
Keep in mind brand new coil armature bearing commuter entire assembly bearing plate bearing 2 screws in bottom of armature. The only thing that is not new is the screws. I took picz without carbon brushes on yet.
Should i take commuter brush holders take grind some off so its not so clo5to commuter on armature. Es

My best guess is that if it doesn't touch now, it never will, unless it is so close that contact will be made once the copper of both the holder and the commutator thermally expand. I suspect the holder is designed to come close so as to provide the carbon brush with good support and allow it to be used to as short a length as possible. There is a bending moment exerted on the brush due to friction with the commutator, so a longer brush holder equals less stress on the brush.

Really, its your call.

Good luck!

Thanks

I asked a person pretty knowledgeable and he said dont cut. When the d80 motor went out the holder lodged against the commuter part of armature. 2nd rebuild i think motor was toast.
It makes sense have them long for stability. With all new parts armiture is balanced and bearings all new the armature doesn't hit spins perfectly. The new armature dont have long wires so i had to solder wires on but i used flux anf and heat shrink.
The onlyy dumb@zz thing i did was put 505-512 bearing plate on. I was wondering why screws didn't fit.
So im putting everythinright bearing plate on both with new fan and everything replaced. I have 2 4 roll brush rolls.
1 vac is going to have my bag assembly with green sanatronic top fill bag with zipper on it.
They other is remaining all original but I do have green sanatronic bag getting zipper put on.
Ben if you read this on video you were right bearings were bone dry and behind fan looked like hair. Next to the coil was welded a plate. I have never seen that before. The armature was literally brand new looked identical to new one except it had 6 little drill marks on commuter. I found out they drill those in to balance armature out. The field coil was next to metal plate. But motor housing had a crap ton of debree. I was suprised vacuum eveen turned on..
