The electrolux E on todays POD, was the vacu my mom had when I was growing up as a kid. I would give my left your know what to find one in great condition like that.

Actually the POD is a Model E-Automatic, which came after the Model LXI as its replacement. The Model E, which was introduced in 1954, was continued through the run of the E-A as a lower-tier model.

The Lovely Model E (and its Automatic Counterpart)

When my parents first were married, in 1973, my dad's father bought my parents a $50 rebuilt Model E (not the automatic one) as a wedding gift.

I remember that vacuum distinctly, with its chrome halo around the blower end for cord storage and the hammertone finish of the body. The Model E wasn't much different from the ensuing Model S, R, and L (although there were slight differences between said machines...yet the motor and body style remained the same).

The Automatic E resembles the Automatic F in many ways, save for the fact that the Automatic F was made in a gray/off-white color scheme and had an outlet for a power nozzle.

When I acquired my first Model L, my mom (who was the owner of a Model E in the '70s, mind you) mistook it for being the same machine she had when she got married.

The E-A and F were virtually the same machine as you noted, other than slight design changes. UNTIL, that is, the later F came out, which had a more powerful motor, a "donut"-style cord winder, and power nozzle. See link.

You're welcome. So, which model did your mom have the E, or the E-A?? Do you remember whether or not she had the air-powered floor polisher?

She had the automatic without the cordwinder..As well as the polisher..

Cool! That's exactly what my mom had -- she got the polisher instead of the cord winder; couldn't afford both. Do you ever remember your mom using the polisher? Would love to hear all about that.

Do you have a model E-A at all?

Hi Charlie,
I do not have an E, I do have an AF which is close. I been looking for and automatic E but never could find one in decent condition..I do remember my mom using the polisher..I remember the scent of the wax more than anything..She also used it scrub this carpet cleaning compound into the carpet and than vacuum it up when it was dry...That was back in the day when wall to wall carpet was wool..

Very cool! So many people got the polishers and rarely -- or never -- used them. My mom used hers regularly, a couple of times a year for spring cleaning (always very exciting for me because it meant the entire house got vacuumed and polished from one end to the other and from floor to ceiling!), as well as touch-up polishing in high-traffic areas.
