So I am hoping to get my vacuum cleaners all repaired and spiffed up this year, I can't believe I've been a collector for 2 years now! I am faced with a conundrum - should I spend more to buy OEM parts, or should I keep the repairs cheap and buy just whatever China recreates (bags, belts, etc)?

I know my local ACE store has tons of old stock vacuum bags and belts on the shelf, faded and dusty, going back to the Dirt Devil Broom Vac, for $2-8.

Logically speaking, the vacuums would be worth more down the line with them all having OEM parts (with proof), right? That's kind of why I want to do it, to have them be as nice and museum-like as possible. But man, I am afraid it's gonna cost so much.

What do you guys think?

Hey

Vacuum bags non oem and belts. I don't think it would effect it's status. Royal uprights I use Kirby belts. Eureka f&g bags I use on super sweep. I believe Kirby hand vacs and royal hand vacs might take the same belt.
So bags and belts and bulbs are going to happen and I would want power cord outer bag and body original. The non or. Bags are going to preserve the outer bag life. Royals use f&g bags. I'd say you are running vacuum correctly. If it was a show vacuum piece I'd have original bag and belt. But my super sweep and royal they don't make f&g bags. I'd be hard pressed to say it's wrong. The belts may fit another model with the same motor. I don't see any problem at all. Putting belts and bags on vacuum is maintenance. If you take care of your vacuum is key to worry about. So I say buy off brand. You are maintaining your vacuum.

They're vacs, not super cars. If you decide to sell one in the future, having a maintenance record and a crumpled paper bag filled with oem parts receipts, is really only going to interest one buyer out of a million. Even if you sell to someone here, I doubt most of them would be so particular, as long as the machine is in one piece and works well.

But idk.

Also I'll second Les that bags and belts are maintenance items, which means they're fair game for cheap aftermarket parts.

Personal opinion... go OEM. I bought TWO aftermarket hoses for my Electrolux Diamond Jubilee. The first got STUCK on the machine because the release mechanism was faulty. The second one had a short, so the power nozzle would cut on and off. Actually, I think it may have made the whole machine turn on and off. Anyways, I finally bought an OEM hose, and everything has been perfect since then.

Hey

That's an apples to oranges. Hose definitely oem.
He's saying disposable bags and belts. It's handva. The bag oem and non oem isn't going to perform any better. Bags and belts get thrown away.
To guess not many people know many people use bags. Belts it's a handvac that runs close to 3 inches brush roll.
I'd say about half or more oem are made from oem manufacturers.

Hey

For a 2 amp handvac I disagree. Using envirocare compact bags no difference. With compact pn you use a eureybelt.

I always have used OEM, however with that said. I buy Electrolux Germgrabber or Surething Bags NOS

on Ebay. When I switched, they changed from their "original 4 ply" to "better than the original 4 ply

bags" I say no way!!!!!I called Aerus when they first came out and sent them a used one to see what I meant.

An apology and sending me a Brand New Box of same.....quit using them and went to NOS bags.. No dust in the bag compartment when you change the bag........DVC 4 ply bags work well also, but be careful they say 4 ply.

I use them in an Electrolux I gave to my friend who has 2 cats. No dust in the bag compartment when

the bag is changed. Be carefull DVC makes a two ply bag which leaks dirt...PS don't use anything but genuine

if your machine is under Warranty.....that will void your warranty.......I am talking about their Style C Bags,

also the Guardian Platinum bags are fine......
