Man, this thing is gorgeous! Never seen a black painted one before. Literally every piece seems to be mint or extremely close, with the exception of the damaged bakelite brush holders. If anyone here gets this vac, I may have a spare set.

Woah. I have a hand vac with that same paintjob. I thought it was just a DIY paintjob because it's flaking off in solid chips with bare metal underneath. But it has the exact same paint pattern - kind of a leatherette look to it.

It's got no name or maker on it and its assembled in two halves and screws together like a 1990's Dirt Devil. The suction also goes through the handle and not through the motor or off to the side of the motor. It's really weird.

I remember that on Etsy! Maybe the halves were casted by someone out of necessity, and the motor is from something else? Since it is a crinkle paint, any stamping on the motor would be tough to see. There is probably something hiding on there that can help with info.

Wow you have good memory!

Yeah I plan to make a find post on it, jut have to find it in my photo archives again. It had sesame seeds in the bag and it had red velvet snagged in the brush strips so that tells me pool table vacuum.

It has a stamping in the metal inside, like a factory stamp, and it has LS and RS molded under that for each half. No idea. The screws holding it are very soft brass, I was being very very gentle and careful, and even using a period standard screwdriver and lots of oil and the screw heads still started bending and threatening to strip.

It has two pin rivets on the front across each half, like a logo went there, and it looks so much like a Singer logo, but no clue.

But yeah same finish as this one.

Wrinkle paint was a common enough finish for stuff back in the day... but the switch has overspray on it. I doubt the factory would've painted these with everything assembled. I wonder if it was a vacuum shop or rebuilding program that painted them.

Could be

I’ve gotten switches like that with grime on them, makes them look like that. Could just be some kind of filth, worn plating, or overspray. Good eye!
