Saw this last weekend and passed on it, but went back to the store today and it was still there! Haven't ever had a Futura canister before so why not? It seems to be a base model, straight suction and nothing fancy. I have the wands and rug nozzle from my noisy little Tempo 350 rigged up for now, and I like it! Seems to have sufficient power for a quick sweep and above floor cleans. It'll pair nicely with my PowerDrive Supreme upright.
Is it an odd model? All of the other Futuras I've seen have had the power heads...

Yep, Paul is correct! Also, the online archive of Sears and JCPenney catalogs will also have some good info.  I did have the same pinkish model some time ago. Recently, I found two of the black and white Futura models with the chrome wands and the same rug/floor tool you have pictured.

Why someone would buy the straight suction model over the powerhead models is odd to me. The price difference between the two wasn't that much. Comparing the TOL black model like I have with the low end PN version. I do like the concept of the wheeled rug/floor tool. I wish it had better performance on carpets. I've noticed it tends to smear pet hair on carpets without actually picking it up.

Hoover must have had homes with hardwood floors and throw rugs in mind when making those.

I have a certain fondness for suction only canisters made in North America from the 1970’s onward to the present. Having grown up in a 2-vacuum household (upright for carpets + canister for everything else), I prefer a cleaning team comprised of simple yet robust cleaners that do their respective jobs with excellence.

These suction only Futuras are quite beautiful, and I have always loved that particular carpet/floor nozzle with wheels. And the deluxe versions with steel wands are especially stunning!
