thoughts on hoover

Recently I bought another Hoover. A Hoover windtunnel self propelled. I really don't even know why I bought it I guess it looks a little snazzy like the self propeller. But it just like every other newer "plastivac" it has next to zero suction power its sluggish aside from the name Hoover and it's attempt at being a high performance vac it's the only vacuum in my collection I can name of more then one thing I can't stand about it. What's your thoughts on it? And do you or have you had a vacuum in your collection that you just have no idea why it in there?

My thoughts on that machine are nothing like yours... I have had a couple of those come through my collection and found them to be EXTREMELY powerful and not sluggish, they are also great deep cleaning machines. The only thing I see that I wasn't too find of was the weight.

Time for a tune-up!

Loud and kind of heavy, but extremely powerful, these things are work horses if properly maintained. It sounds like your machine really needs new belts. They may not be broken, but they're probably stretched out, if it's had regular use, and been more than 6 months since they were last changed. I'd recommend replacing both belts, check the brushes to make sure they aren't worn down, replace the bag, and clean or replace both filters. Those Windtunnels are still among the best carpet cleaners available, and if you give it a tune-up, you should be a lot happier with it. Enjoy your new Hoover!

P.S. For an upright from this era, they also do a good job on bare floors!

If it weren't for being so loud, the self-propelled Windtunnel would have to be one of my favorite modern Hoovers. It looks like you have an earlier model. I second what henrydreyfuss said;  your hoover definitely needs new belts. The self-propelled mechanism on these models are almost too aggressive and should be anything but sluggish. I would check for clogs as well.  You will be amazed at both the suction and airflow it can provide.

a clog.

Come to think of it a clog has crossed my mind but not in the main hose the lower hose maybe I'm just excepting to much outta the young Buck. I believe the filters are brand new will check the belt if so will change have a few belts that came with it

I have the exact same model

and have no issues with it at all. It IS a bit "bulky", but....................

I have to disagree.

The top-rated Hoover Ultra SP WindTunnel was one of the most effective upright cleaners I ever used. If you have acres of walk-to-wall carpeting, this vac is amazingly easy to use and deep cleans high pile carpeting with excellence.

The only drawbacks: very heavy to lift up a flight of stairs, and difficult to use for above floor cleaning due to poorly designed tools and hose.

The air flow thru the hose was extremely powerful though!

With the brush switched off, it's even great on bare floors!

higher pile plus attachments...

Well got the windtunnel upstairs today and found it works wonders on higher pile carpets and the hose does wonders cleaned every piece of furniture. The self propel switch got caught up and works very well all tho I did end up turning it off made it almost a hassle. Super neat tho. Whats the trouble with low carpets and rugs. Expecialy with newer Vacs? Time to get a canister?

I own two of those self propelled Hoovers, a Green one ( which I cant find at the moment, lost in the storeroom ) and a Newer model. As they were never sold here in SA they are both 110v and I can say they are awesome vacuums. The suction power is incredible. I think it can come close to rival some direct air machines.


 


One thing I have always said , dont judge the cleaning ability of a vacuum by trying out one that someone has thrown out or sold off. Rather overhaul the machine, New bags/filters,brush roll,belts and give the machines suction ducts a good scrubbing. Only then can you really judge the machines cleaning ability
