The Premier

Well this is a continue from my thred in contemprary but I felt this machine deserved to be in the vintage forum. This is a nice Premier that I found on the curb. I did have to put a new cord on it also but everything else is great! I was suprised to see that it is a plastic base. I took the whole motor apart and everything was still nice and clean. The vacuum didn't see that much use. I would say that the bag is a replacment?? It could use a replacing again as the bottom is getting worn right arond the collar but I won't change it. It still has an empty vintage blue kenmore style 20-5002 bottom fill bag. Any info on this would be great if nothing else the year.

Steel fan.

All the G.E./ Premier uprights used steel fans,they were much better than the aluminum fans of Hoover and Eureka,and made a noticeably different sound.

The steel fan in the Premeir was OK-but the plastic housing suffers if the fan breaks-at a radio station where I worked they had one of these vacuums under the Mastercraft name-a janitorial brand.I really did not like the machine-it was noisey and being it was at a transmitter site-it picked up a screw or something-then there was chaos!The fan broke and threw a blade thru the plastic fancase.so to fix the machine had to order a new fan and get a base assembly from the junkpile at a vacuum repair place.At that time the bases weren't sold separatly-I don't know why.After the machine broke again it was replaced with a Royal Commerical metal upright-light years better machine-quieter and picked up better.

G E version.

The G.E. version of this was similar except it had a aluminum housing and the fan chamber was lined with steel,they are just about indestructable.

Well, if that's true how come there are none of them left lol? By comparison, G.E. canisters seem a dime a dozen. I'd love to have a G.E. upright (or a Premier) from that era.

I would as well-esp with the metal base and steel lined fancase!The plastic based Premeirs were pretty bad I thought.No wonder they went under!Their older machines were BETTER!!I have an older GE Premeir upright that is much better than those newer machines.Quieter,picks up better and more durable design.Bought it from the Habitat For Humanity store when it was open here-they closed.

well I have noticed a funny noise in the brush roll. I think it might need replaceing. It works but has a rattle that I don't like. I haev to admit, i'm not in love with this machine but I do like looking at it and it makes a great machine to add to my G-E models. It is super cheap compared to the older ones. So would you say that's a replacment bag?

Just as a guess would think the bag is a gen vac shop replacement-no logo of any sort on the bag.Anything printed on the back of the bag-what type of inner paper bag does it use?

no logo at all. It has a Kenmore 5002 bottom fill bag. It's just like the Singer System bag. I don't know what the GE style would be.

I do believe that is an original bag.
I got mine NIB and it has a white and gold bag with no markings on it.

As for the inner bag, it is a Eureka F&G bag, the genuine Premiere ones were bubblegum pink.
