The New Dyson 360 Eye Robot Vacuum

Well, they say this one is different - that it has strong suction, that it "knows" where it is and where it has and has not vacuumed and that it can handle varying types of floors.

Looking at the photos, I can only say this:

Given that we live in a world where it is next to impossible to get a toaster fixed competently, I'm not sure I'd want $1000 tied up in one of these things when it goes wrong.

Watched a link to this on the washer-appliance site neighboring this one.Not convinced-think I will stick to my usual vacuums.don't mind pushing them-can do the work faster and better-as well as cheaper.The crawler track design is unique and its eye locater is another unusual thing.It has the Dyson "Digital" suction motor.But just don't buy the effectiveness of the cyclone filter.Hope there is a regular HEPA type filter to trap the fines.We don't want that stuff getting into that digital motor now,do we?The crawler design will allow the machine to truely turn on its radius and perhaps climb over "off Road" obstructions common in homes-like door thresholds,carpet-rug edges,cords, and such.But will the machine have the sense to go around and avoid a pile off doggy poo-Watched a video of a home WRECKED by doggy in the house-he relived himself-the ever so helpful Rumba machine tried to "clean" the mess up-instead it was smeared all over the householders flooring-from nice carpets to beautful hardwood floors.If that happened to me--Rumba would have gotten a charge of Double-ought from my 12 guage!Another fellow and I watched the home camera video of the incident-we both thought of the "shotgun" cure for that Rumba.Of course--SPARE the dog-not all his fault.

You know, my Kirby has strong suction, I know where I have and haven't vacuumed, my Kirby can handle any floor you throw at it, literally. Wood floors, especially, that one machine vacuums, waxes, buffs, polishes, sands, drills and even saws your hard wood flooring! Even if I could build a bird house with a Dyson, I still wouldn't buy it, the plastic jigsaw would be the OSHA violation of the year!

Or--Just use the Roomba as a running deer target holder!!OOPS!!I missed the deer target but hit the Roomba with my .300 Weatherby Magnum that needs sighting in!!No more Roomba!!!You would be picking parts of it from the range-even at 300 yards!!Have a 300 Weatherby-the power of the thing is amazing!BUT--Save the Kirbys from the target range-they WORK!!!Roobas and other robot vacuums DON'T!!Maybe the Neato as discussed in another thread-but again will take a Kirby over that!At least the Neato TRIES to clean the floor its put on.

That's not too bad of an idea, let's glue some mannequins to some Rombas and start us a redneck target range! We could be raking it in!

I just may suggest it to someone who actually does operate a shooting range-he wants a device to move a sillohette target across the range in front of the pistol shooters-say about 25 yds-An old Roomba maybe just what he needs-no cords-guess you could guide it with the infra-red "fence " devices.Would think this could work for running deer targets for rifle and bow shooters,too.Now this would be for OLD Roombas turned in for trades ins-the machines would be pretty beat up-but could still run and move.It would seem the machine would have enough power to move a lightweight paper target and frame across the range.You could protect the Roomba with a heavy steel sheild in front of the area where it runs.For the bow range--can you imagine a Roomba with arrows sticking in it?How many shots could it take before it no longer works??

Another thought--How 'bout turning a dozen or so Roombas loose at our transmitter site--lots of bare floors here!!!And would the RF from the transmitters interfere with them??That would be neat to see!!That might be more fun than putting a million bucks in the Mold-O-Rama machine!

The Mold-O-Rama machine was a vending machine that in outward appearence looked like a large juke box.You put your money into it and it made a plastic injection molded souvenier-In the 50's and 60's many tourist trap type places had them.Used them when I was kid.A transparent dome on the top of the machine covered the molding equipment-these were neat to watch.Think there is a company that restores and still sells these machines.Remember from Marineland on the Pacific in California-they had a few Mold-O-Ramas-they made plastic dolphins.Another at the Zoo out there made plastic gorillas.Marineland is now sadly gone.Closed long ago-was demolished and now a resort motel is there where it used to be.The Wachee Weechie(Florida)-beleive it was-had a Mold-O-Rama that made a mermaid.Tried all of them when I was kid.Don't have what they made anymore-got thrown away long time ago.Google "Mold-O-Rama" and beleive there will be info on these machines.

The machines are still being sold under the "Mold-A-Rama" name.There are several videos of them being used on YouTube-when I saw those-just like what I remembered!The machines are pretty cool.Think it was like 50 cents when I used them-now its like 2 or 3 bucks to use.-But still worth it-even the "show" the machine does while making the plastic figure is worth it!The machine is a coin operating injection molding machine.Takes a hydraulic pump to work,air compressor,and refrigeration compressor.Hydraulics work the molds and pusher cylinders.Compressor blows air into the figure to fill the mold.And the refrigeration system pumps chilled water thru the molds to cool and release the figure.Pretty neat for early 60's!The machines can be bought for like 15 grand each!-restored.Requires 120V 30A to run it.Also has a heater in it to heat the plastic resevior pot to up to 250 degrees.From a cold start the pot takes 3 hrs to warm up to a point where the machine can be used.A "sold out" light on the backglass panel lights while the thing is heating.Lights on the backglass panel light to show the phases the machine goes thru.Some had tape recorded sound effects that played while the machine works.The sounds of the compressors and pumps was good enough for me!Oh yes-the smell of the molten plastic from the machine was sort of neat.Smelled like poly and crayons.Again look them up-interesting esp for older guys that remembered these machines at the attractions visited while you were a kid!
