a very long day at work today...tired and ready to go home and enjoy my weekend off. The wife and I are readying ourselves for the third winter storm to hit Kentucky this week. And living in the middle of nowhere, I had to get groceries. So as I left work and on my way to Kroger to stock up, I decided I'd stop by Goodwill and see if they had any Kirbys or Hoovers in stock. I walk into the back room and all I found was an old canister vac of some type...kind of a cream color and wood grain on top...and I don't care for canisters or tanks at all. I'm an upright only kind of guy. So no luck there...but far away on a shelf, I spot this funky looking stereo system and had to go look at it. It's a Kmart brand LKT One Thousand and yes, it's actually spelled out that way. It has an am/fm tuner, 4 speed mini BSR record changer and cassette deck. For $10, i thought I'd drag it home...and I did. It actually sounds quite well. I didn't expect it. And it was made in Japan. Another shocker. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it...but it's kind of neat. The dust cover is a little dirty but it should all clean up quite well. It's in VERY good condition considering its age. Not an expensive top of the line stereo by any means, but still very unique. Kmart sold some very AWESOME stereos and vacuum cleaners back in the day. And I still love and frequent both of my local Kmart stores.

Nice Looking Machine!

Make sure the ohms for your speakers are right for the receiver, or you'll burn up your output transistors in the receiver. Most receivers need 8 ohms, but if the speaker is less than that, you could burn a winding open in your speaker. If you go way up on your ohms, from your speaker to your receiver, you'll burn your receiver up.  It looks like with your machine, you could ride 8 ohms and up and be just alright. Realistic is the old RadioShack brand, they used to make some really good stuff. They made one of the last 8Track players back in 1990.

That's an excellent choice for your speakers! I have two sets of Realistic speakers in real teak veneer, I don't recall what the model is, or what the retail price was, but they were on sale for $20 apiece brand new. Now I have two bookshelf sized Infinity to replace them with. But two reasons I won't part with the Realistics, they're too good to sell, and the two times I did try to sell them, no one was interested.

I'll bet the teak veneered speakers

are from the Nova line Radio Shak used to sell. Very nice speakers indeed. I had two pair of them, but they were stolen. Does anyone know what the replacement stylus is for the BSR mini changer? I have a Capehart stereo that has one, and need a new stylus for it.
