The kirby g 4

I was working on a Kirby G4 that had no power to day at the vac shop. I repalced the swicth and still had no power.. So I disassembled the whole vacuum and took the motor out. I hot wired the motor and it worked , but really sparked and did not sound healthy. Is this kirby worth fixing? I could put another motor in it. The customer has had the kirby for 14 years. She had the fan replaced about ayear ago eles where. I think she would like to have her Kirby fixed.She is an elderly lady who lives on her own. Any suggestions?

Ps.. I rescued a Fantom fury canister from the junk pilr to day after hours at the vac shop, I spent a good solid 1.5 hours taking it all apart and washing it. I am putting new bearings in the roller brush on the power nozzel. I am very excited because this will be a fun vacuum to add to my collection. It cleaned up good and pulls a very impressive 85 inches if water lift and has a kool sound to the motor.Yes, stay tuned for a vid..

I would think it's worth fixing, especially if she's going to replace it with plastic junk if it doesn't get fixed. Did she say what she would do if she couldn't get it fixed? Even if she's old, if she has a single level house, the weight of the Kirby shouldn't be a problem. Do you have a wholesaler you can get a motor from at a reasonable cost... or a donor machine you can use?

Is the Fantom an upright or a canister? The Fury was the upright, and the Lightening was the canister unless they had different models overseas.

If she is the original owner

Suggest to her that she return it to Kirby for a factory rebuild if the repair cost are too high. I know this doesn't help your bottom line, but it can be more better for the customer which will build good will in the end.

YES, the factory rebuild is a good idea. If she likes her Kirby and is still happy after 14 years. I'd say have her
send it to Kirby, You get her business for belts and bags.
Plus she'll tell friends and/or other Kirby owners your good
and honest advice. She may use it a few more years and come back to YOU for a used or new lighter weigh machine. She may
keep the Kirby or again YOU may get it for a rebuilt on your floor and you know the history !!

no power

check the cord for power. they tend to breack a wire in the cord at the top of the handel were it bends all the time. check the carbon brushes in the motor.
