I bought this used on eBay about a week ago. Needed to be cleaned up a bit but it sure works like a champ! It's very quiet on the rugs. It came with the hose, brush, turbo brush, bent want and crevice tool with radiator brush, wich will be really useful! Probably my favorite of all my current vacs (second being the Sc684)!

Yep. Thats the tiny brush on the crevice tool tip. Its really useful even for tight spaces other than the radiator crevices.

I might add one of these to my collection soon as I"m looking at a 1960's model and Heritage and attachments deal....depends on shipping cost. Congrats on your good find, love to hear of people's passion with their particular vacuums!

How much did you get it for? I've only been buying Kirbys on eBay from within my home state, as shipping only costs me about $20.

The plug-in brush in the crevice tool was for refrigerator condenser coils (also can be informally called radiators because that is what they really do...)

I bought a complete Kirby set off ebay (from PA) with $16 shipping. When I looked at the postage sticker, the weight was listed at 4lbs. Actual weight was 26! Some bending of the parameters sometimes 'occurs'. This should have been almost 40 to ship!

The 3M vacuums used for copier and computer printer cleanups had the same crevice tool brush. The 3M vacuum uses a filter that is also the dirt-dust container when it was full you replaced it with another.Vaguely remember of two types true HEPA and the other for toner and regular dust-dirt.The HEPA one was more expensive.A workplace I was in had these vacuums.Could also be used as a small tool box.

Husky,
I know I would not have been paying any more, since I paid what it was listed for. Once it is left at my door, it is mine. The seller would be responsible for anything additional since they were the ones to make the 'mistake'. The PO should have not delivered it or returned it to sender, at then I would have been due a refund.
As bad as that vac was and that it was broke even more during shipping, I actually got a half refund!

I bought this for $149 off of eBay with free shipping. Im planning on getting the full standard attachment set sometime in the future. I also bought the proper style 2 bags for about $4.00 off ebay. A great vac, Kirbys are definitely the M1 tanks of vacuum cleaners!

Sweet vac. Does yours have the cloth or wire hose fill tube?

Yours is nicer than the Heritage I once had. Mine had the cloth fill tube and was cosmetically in fantastic condition. What a nice cleaner it was to use. However, it had a critical flaw which I discovered when it began running unsteadily and making arcing noises.

To me, it always sounded a bit weak and slow but I just figured it was this way by design. Nope. Upon further investigation, I discovered that the joints between two neighboring copper commutator plates and their respective wires had been shorted together. This caused the two affected commutator plates to arc together each time they spun past a brush, slowly eroding and scarring them until the motor had serious health problems. This armature was beyond repair.

I concluded that before the cleaner fell into my hands, an idiot had improperly locked the armature for a fan change with a screwdriver instead of the special Kirby tool. This practice bent one of the commutator joints towards its neighbor and caused the short.

I had never seen anything like this before. Honestly, I was surprised it ran for as long as it did. Crazy.

Mine has the cloth fill tube. Everything is pretty good other than it had a few layers of dust. Sounds exactly as it should! I bought I would like to know if anyone knows why the turbo brush won't spin fast? Maybe I'll make a video later of the Kirby.

Take the bottom plate off and check to make sure there is nothing like hair or threads wrapped around the brush roller ends and or the axle of the turbine fan. they never really spun very fast.
