the great Kirby debate. (again)

Hello folks. Tonight I'm thinkin about the Kirbys and a previous post that got alot of helpful and intuitive response. As was mentioned "the last one wins" concerning dirt left behind now here's my hang up. I demonstrated Kirbys for awhile and one demo sticks out. I was in a elderly woman's home she had a house she claimed the carpet was forty years old well she had a older model raccar upright she said it had a new bag in it the works. So off we went I vacuumed every inch a few times with it. Well it came Kirbys turn and pad after pad loads of sand and dirt. Later she told me her kids and grandkids had tracked that in as she hadn't had a sandbox in over 15 years. So what puzzles me is was this raccar just old and tired would it been different had she been using a older Kirby or a good running Hoover. Kirbys have a Rep of being king of Vacs the end all be all cleaner. While I love Kirbys I own several I wouldn't say that any of my Kirbys are better than say my Hoover or my eureka or anything else in my collection for that matter share your thoughts and demo experience if you have any storys. Sorry for such a long thread.

Sand doesn't have to come from a sand box. Sand is just tiny particles of crushed rock or stone and can be brought into the house on shoes.

ALL carpets have grit and sand embedded into the bottom of the carpet pile. It doesn't matter what cleaner I use - old, new, upright, cylinder, Kirby, Hoover, Sebo etc etc...everytime I use my Numatic George to wash the carpets, there is grit in the water that the vacuum has left behind.

I have an older Riccar HP-21 upright. It was "inherited" when my family bought a house from an old man who moved into a rest home and left most of his stuff in the house. The HP-21 was  severely clogged at the brush to fan hose - it's  a clean air vac - so I unclogged it, cleaned it up and have used it off and on since then. Seems to work OK but nothing exceptional and I'll guarantee my Kirby Legend II will outclean it any day on carpet, it's simply a better vacuum. In particular the Kirby height adjustment allows the rug head to be correctly adjusted for a good rug seal while the Riccar has no adjustment.


 


I should add that the HP-21 is a Japanese made model and probably has nothing in common with today's American built Riccars that are supposed to have impressive cleaning ability. The HP-21 uses the same bags as a related Simplicity model so I can get bags for it which is nice. If anyone knows how old it is I'd love to hear.

I've owned a lot trash thru the years, and in my opinion...formed thru experience, KIRBY IS THE QUANTUM LEAP!
