Last night, a friend took me to see "The Amazing AcroCats" at the El Porto Theatre in North Hollywood.
A dozen or so trained cats (yes, I said TRAINED CATS!!) performed stunts, tricks and acrobatics.
Well, being cats, there were occasional displays of cat-temperament when, like, one of the kitties would just sit there, blinking, with that "Are you serious?!" look on its face. And sometimes one of them trotted off the stage and wended its way through the audience. All the cats are rescue cats, adopted by the trainer.
The Rock Cats, a band of mewsicians, consisted of a cowbell, gong, guitar, drums and keyboard. There was also a gong-playing groundhog and a cymbal- & tambourine-playing chicken. They were all actually playing their instruments!
The show was a bit home-spun and hokey but thoroughly enjoyable. (Some of the audience members were enjoying it w-a-a-y too much, causing me to wonder if they were audience plants.)
If you hear about the show coming to your area and you are a cat lover, then don't miss it!
