A big THANK YOU goes to Norm Brown for the two latest additions to my collection. First is a very early straight suction Royal upright. If I remember right, this one was given to him by either his brother-in-law or son-in-law. And when Norm decided he really didn't have time to work on it, he knew who to call! Thanks again Norm!

With My Model 80 Electro-Hygiene

Here's one with my model 80 Electro-Hygiene straight suction upright so you can see the similarities and differences between the two, and so you can see what I'm hoping it will look like after restoration.

Airway Sanitizor Model 77

This is the other machine Norm gave me along with the Royal. The Airway was one of four vacuums that were offered to him for the taking. He already had a model 77 but grabbed this one because he knew I was looking for an Airway! As you can see in the pic, it's a beautiful machine and I won't have to do much to it other than polish the dome and the runners, round up the rest of the attachments, and possibly replace the cord. First is a pic of the machine by itself. Thanks again, Norm!

And Here's a Pic With The Attachments

Only has the hose, floor brush, and upholstery nozzle, but it also has the instruction book. Still need to find wands, rug nozzle, dust brush, crevice tool, and floor polisher. Norm even gave me some extra bags for it!

Jeff actually has a manual for the old Royal and from that
we decided the machine is about 1924. Correct me if I'm
wrong Jeff. I'll be looking for the "after" shots !
If it runs I'll even be more surprised.
My brother in law found them for me. He had bought a
rental house that he was working on found an early lux
XXX and a couple of tools. Then found the Royal and a straight wood handle Hoover in the house next door.
Sure hope someone tells you that they have wands and the
other attachments you need for the Air Way.

Norm's right, Phillip, we figured about 1924-26. Found some patent dates on the data plate, and the last one is 1924. Also I have a copy of a Royal newspaper ad from 1926 showing the more modern machine with the bag connection on the same side as the later models, so this one is somewhere in between.
And Norm, I've already started working on it! Got the bag off and vacuumed it inside and out. Also replaced the motor brushes (one was completely gone, the other was almost gone) and hooked a test cord directly to the motor. The good news is that it runs and sounds pretty good. The bad news is I think the armature is shot, as it sparks enough to light up a dark room. However, I'll still procede with the cosmetic restoration, then when I find an armature, or someone to rebuild the armature, everything else will already be done.
