Yesterday, in a moment of temporary insanity, I bought a Kirby G5 on eBay. The price was pretty low and it had free shipping, so I hit the "Buy it Now" button. Besides, I've always liked the G5's burgundy color scheme.
According to the description, the only thing wrong with it aside from a few 'battle scars' was the plug, which had been torn off the end of the cord and re-attached with black electrical tape at a right angle to the rest of the cord. It's probably as unsafe as it is ugly, so I stopped off at Lowe's on the way home today and bought a $2 plug to replace that bit of redneck engineering. I don't know why people don't take a minimal bit of effort and expense to fix a thing correctly, especially when the roll of tape probably cost within a few pennies of what the plug did.
Buying the thing was completely insane because I needed it like I need another hole in my head. I already own two perfectly good Kirbys, a Heritage I and a G6, in addition to an Electrolux 1205. I mean, how many vacuum cleaners does one really need to clean a 1,300 square-foot-house? In a worst-case scenario, I guess I'll have a parts donor for the G6.The machine will arrive sometime next week and then I'll know if I got a bargain or a boondoggle. Either way, it's mine.
