switch for omniflow automatic on model 2100

The power nozzle stopped working. I tried connecting its cord to the receptacle on the handle and it still did not work, so I'm guessing it's the switch. My switch is a 938-41, and it slides through 3 positions. The ones I typically see advertised have a different part number and don't appear to be sliders. So, Can someone please advise me about which switch I need to get? I have sprayed some contact cleaner in the switch and will try it again, but I'm guessing that even if that works it will be a temporary fix.

Try just connecting the two wires together, if it runs then it is the breaker. Incidentally they aren't actually a switch. They are a breaker. If it is the breaker take the blue swich cover off (It just slides off) then use a flat screw driver to pry up the two metal tabs you will find under it. That will allow you to remove the breaker from the housing. Take it to an Aeris dealer (Or most vac shops) and they should have a replacement.

Thanks. I connected the two prong plug directly to the receptacle on the handle. When I disconnected the two wires on the breaker, the light comes on indicating that the bag is full and the vacuum shuts off. That does certainly sound like a breaker, but why won't the power nozzle work?

I haven't used this vacuum in a while, but I thought the three marks shown in the photo represented different functions, so one of them would turn on the power nozzle. If not what do these markings mean?

should have written when I disconnected the black and purple wires and **touched them together**, the vacuum shut off.

thanks. Well that clears up that question. Now if I can get some advice about why this power nozzle won't work, I'll be set!

It's a regular circuit breaker, the switch slides over the red button of the circuit breaker, off and reset push the red button down and disconnect the power, on leaves the button up in the on position. You can use a circuit breaker from another model but you may have to shorten the red button a bit and round it over so the switch lever will slide on it.

Okay, I see, and you're pretty sure based on what I've described, that the circuit breaker is the problem? As I wrote before, when I disconnected the wires and touched them together, the "full bag" icon lit up and the vacuum turned off.

I should mention, though, that at no time did the power nozzle engage and run, so I want to double check that you think it is the breaker and not some other (or additional) problem.

Ok - that's a strange one. Has there been any service work done on the vacuum where wires might have been switched?

Not that I know of. I bought it used quite some time ago, and haven't used it it in a long time, but I'm pretty sure the power nozzle worked (although I'm not claiming to have a perfect memory.

But (and understand I'm pretty clueless about these things) even if the wires were reversed it doesn't seem to me that would matter at least in terms of me touching the two wires together.

Two things
One have you tried connecting the power nozzle to some test leads to see if it works independent of the vacuum? If it runs then the problem may be with the hose or the vacuum.

Two if the bag full light is coming on this is caused by the control valve ( that dial on top of the vacuum) that senses the difference in the suction between the bag chamber and the front opening. When the control valve opens (diaphragm pushes up on a pin in the valve and the suction goes into the tube that goes to the diaphram in the switch control housing) it moves the diaphragm which rocks a lever and shuts off the power and turns on the bag full light. When you turn off the switch it resets the rocker and switch. Unless the rocker under the large rectangular button broke in which case it would either stay powered up or powered off.

Check to see if the power nozzle motor turns free then, if it does, try connecting the two wires together then turn the machine on and see if it happens again. If it does happen check and see if its the bag indicator light that comes on or if its the overheat light (shaped like a thermometer).

Biker Ray - I put the contacts together and turned on the vacuum. I discovered that it does not shut off unless the dial is on "5". At lower settings the vacuum continues to run, however the power nozzle never engages.

Collector2 - The motor moves easily when I turn it by hand. The light that comes on is definitely the "full bag" not the "thermometer" icon.

Thanks to you both. So.... what next - more diagnostics, or does it seem clear what the problem is and what the fix would be?

Nope. The vacuum runs, but not the power nozzle. I'll tell you, I think it used to run, but I haven't used it in a long time and I'm not 100% sure, so maybe it's dead and it's not the breaker?

The vacuum was working when I used it yesterday (the power nozzle was not), but I did notice it shutting off as if the bag was full when it wasn't full and had to keep resetting it. I had the dial set on "5" at the time, and, as I've since discovered, it does shut off as if full when it is on "5", but it does not do it on the lower numbers.

I don't know if that is a separate issue or if it is related to the power nozzle problem.

The bag control doesn't go by how much is in the bag. It measures air flow. So if you have vacuumed up some very powdery dust it can coat the inside of the bag and make it shut off because air isn't getting through even though there is little in the bag.

Try this - put the powernozzle back together, connect it all up, switch both the pn and the machine on then wiggle the hose at the place where it goes into the machine. Quite often the connections there wear or break so there is no power getting to the powernozzle. If the powernozzle cuts in and out as you move the hose up and down at the machine then the throat probably needs to be replaced.

Success! Thanks so much Collector2! I put it back together, put in a fresh bag, sprayed contact cleaner on all the electrical contacts and now it works!!
