Hey everyone. If you don't know I have an 1984 American Lincoln super vac 180.
I was doing a Google search and found a website with what they claimed was a new brush roll for the super vac. I was suspicious of it was only $14.95. I ordered it and an omega emtor tray. I had to spend $30 to get free shipping. I came home today and I'll be darned there was the box.
I opened it and brand new brush roll. I was quite amazed they had one. I put an amodel fan on it already and I installed a new belt and LED light along with the brush roll.
I installed it took a few pics did a short video of it.
I thought some people might like to see pics of it.
I placed a Kirby omega brush roll and a royal next to it. I took pics of nozzle sole plate screws. The bag zips downwards so I added it as well.

Les,

Awesome find! That 18" brush roll I see was originally made during the time of the emerald green Super-Sweep (1969-1974), due to there being the old-style metal end caps and no plastic thread guards.

As I said before, the 301291 belt is not recommended for this old brush roll; you will want to order part no. 159056A (25 belts).

I read this thread and put on the one you said in that thread.
It ran really well. I have every belt. I have over 100 belts.
The 301291 actually worked well. It ran much better my bearing in old brush roll were toast.

I'm showing the 4 belts I have inside. The other Kirby belts are for floor polisher and shampooer. I also have a few handi Butler belts.

Les,

From this 1988 HESCO manual (picture 1), 159056 is the right belt for your Super-Vac 180. In the picture you show, that would be the 2nd one from the top (with the white KIRBY stamp).

The reason I bring this up is because I have read, via others, that using a newer style knurled belt on an older sleeve-bearing-equipped brush roll may cause the bearings in question to wear down sooner, and according to them these newer-style belts also are a tighter fit (hence more strain) than the older smooth ones.

The attached screenshot (picture 2, also seen in reply 4 at the link below) shows what a new-style belt can potentially do to an old-style brush roll...

The pics of belts are not knurled. I have more there on some of my 500 series machines.
I did order 25 or 50 they don't have part number on them.
I'll put a non knurled belt. I made a video but it makes you dizzy. It just inhales the air.

I do have belts in the link too.

Link to the video, please? I am sure it is still the strong runner it was 36 years ago!

Also: I added more info in my last reply, to state that in the last picture you showed me, the correct belt for your machine is the 2nd one shown from the top.

I'm going to do a better video. It was really bad. I'll have my wife record for me.
With it running how it does now I really like it slot more.

Les,

If the belt cap keeps coming off, I think you might wish to check it for tightness.

It is always key to not over-adjust the height; just as you would with any Kirby cleaner, you will want to stop adjusting once you hear the bristles come into contact with the carpet, but if suction breaks just as they contact the carpet, lower it only one more notch from the initial point of approach. Over-adjusting may cause the belt to break.
