I am STILL having problems with the new bags for the Dail-A-Matic. As you can see they are leaking very bad ,even after ONE use. It renders the machine useless, as the dirt will be escaping into the motor.
The machine belonged to my family has has NEVER had this problem before the new new bags came out. I even tried to cut a piece of foam to cover the red wire mesh in the bottom but it clogs ups from the dirt.
Any suggestions? It appears to be leaking where the bag fits onto the bag holder. The old green Hoover bags had a different set up of paper within the mounting hole, so I think it made a tighter fit.

Anyone have any luck with a different generic brand of bags for the Dail-A-Matic?
Very disapointing, just like the low quality of my newer plastic machines from them.

Hi Rob,

Sorry to hear that you're having this problem. I would recommend doing this:

I've said this in other threads; there's a great way to "bojack" better filtration into these older machines...

I took a HEPA typy Y bag, and carefully tore the cardboard collar off. Then I took a type D bag, and carefully tore that cardboard collar off. I used some fabric glue and glued the type D collar to the type Y bag. I let it sit under a book or something heavy overnight, to be sure it cures... I am then able to fit the Y bag into the Dial A Matic, and now have HEPA filtration in my Dial A Matic. I've done this with a few other machines as well, and I usually do a few bags at a time if I'm going to expend the effort.

(tongue-in-cheek)... Is your Rainbow really leaving that much fine dust behind in your carpets?? **ducks and runs**

LOL @ Fred hehehe. All those suggestions are great. I got some oem bags a stash of them for my portable & they work great, no leakage here. Check Ebay they come around frequently & Fred's tips are great too. Cheers guys!!! Have a hectic!! Hehehe

Still problems with the Hoover Bags

Thanks Everyone.

Fred-I am just a little sentimental about the old Dail-A-Matic and I don't want to ruin it. I got the dirt from from the old carpet in the basement. That carpet came from the house on Morse Landing. I don't think it has been swept since Tania was here the last time. She is coming in September!!!!
I think buying some old stock might be a good idea. Maybe I will give your idea a try when Tania comes next month.
Thanks for the ideas! What we won't do to preserve a fine vintage machine.

The current genuine Hoover type D bags are actually bojack bags. The kind that have always been terrible at filtration. Hoover doesn't make bags any longer. The dust is leaking from the paper itself, the airflow spout into the bag is directly behind where the dust is coming from. It's simply being pushed through the paper. Fred's suggestion is right on the money, but it would be even easier to just use the glue to glue the type D cardboard onto the type Y cardboard, without ripping the type Y's cardboard off.

Still problems with the Hoover Bags

That was a good idea. I just found some genuine "d" Hoover bags on ebay and will buy them for my machine.
Those "new" bags bought from Hoover are going in the trash. Complete waste of money.
I had the SAME experience when I tried to buy new Genuine Hoover bags for my Spirit. Very low quality.
