Greetings Gary, and Countryguy.
Gary, an Aerus Gaurdian is a very quality machine, and streamlined.
Countryguy, I saw an orange Eureka rectangle powerteam in pieces in the recycle center metal dumpster. A shame. It did not look rusty. I could not get low enough inside to retrieve it. It had the power selector thumb wheel and bag guard.
How did your daughter kill it? My moms model 1279 was abused by my sisters, but still runs. They broke the plastic rear stand up feet off of it, as it has the large wheels. They somehow broke off the hobs on the tool pak that held the dusting brush, crevice, and upholstery tools. I doubt I will ever find a tool pak with a burgundy color inset. My dad at some point replaced the cord with one from some Kenmore machine. The color matches. Eureka cords had no label on the plugs, just the large round grooved plug.
 
Actually, it was my step-daughter. She spilled a bunch of dry cat food and in a rare moment of taking responsibility for a mess she'd made, decided to use the Eureka as a shop vac to clean it up, never mind the fact that there was a shop vac 20 feet away in the garage and heaven forbid she actually stoop to using a broom and dustpan. Bits of cat food got into the motor and it started making a hellacious racket. When I couldn't figure out how to get the motor apart to clear the cat food fragments out in 30 seconds or less, her mother, to whom I was married at the time (worst mistake of my life) said that it was too old to bother fixing and since we had a much newer (really crap-tastic plastic, IMO) Kenmore Progressive, it just needed to go to Goodwill and be done with it. I didn't agree but had learned to pick my battles by that point and just let it go. The vacuum had been my grandmother's and was otherwise in near perfect condition. This was the same woman who accused me of wasting time when I repaired a punctured tire on my car using a tubeless tire repair kit that had come with a 12-volt air compressor she had given me for Christmas. She thought I should have taken the tire to a repair shop, which would have taken at least as much time and cost additional money that I didn't have. The compressor, she said, was to be used to pump up things like balls and beach floats for the step-daughter. I haven't seen or spoken to the ex-wife or the step-daughter in more than a decade, but I still have the air compressor and use it on tires all the time. When we split, I left that POS Kenmore with her and acquired my Electrolux 1205 at another Goodwill store. Get rid of the ex-wife, pick up a 1205, sounds like a good trade-off to me.
 
Human, It's true about modern appliances. My 5 year old Maytag by Whirlpool washer is about shot.
It was rebuilt last year under the extended warranty to boot. New bearings and gear case. It's loud again already.
It's a belt drive top loader, a Bravos X.
We only got it because it was on sale with a new dryer we needed. A 22 year old one. Our 20 year old Maytag dependable care had not one repair, and still works perfectly for our daughter.
Now my GE profile dual fuel slide in range is a good one. Also no trouble with the dishwasher. The refrigerator is noisy at times, like when it needs to defrost.
So the board must not be cycling defrost's often enough. When I check the temp., the freezer will be at least 5f. below zero, and the refrigerator at 35f. I have them set at 2f. and 37f. During a pre chill to defrost, the freezer can reach minus 9.
 
To each their own I say. Attitude and emotional intellect is the key to a happy relationship or marriage.
Maintain your individuality. It's ok to make your self happy. It's not entirely your spouses responsibility.
We all have our quirks. My oldest friend has always been single. Afraid of being hurt. So nothing ever more than quick gratification.
His cousin was murdered by her ex husband when he was 17. He says that proved to him relationships are toxic.
His parents divorced in their early seventies. His father died of a broken heart.
Yet, my friend says they were never truly happy. I sure wouldn't know. He is one of the middle of six children. The fourth of and eight year lapse between the second and third.

An Electrolux in the house for Donald to use, he grew up with one so that's what he likes, but he NEVER tears up anything.Praise the LORD for NO CHILDREN!
 
Yeah, that marriage experience pretty much sucked. I'm in absolutely no hurry to try again and at my age, I doubt I will. The fact that I'm generally happy in my life today is the greatest revenge I can have on my ex. And I don't hold anything against the step-daughter, who will turn 25 in a few days. She was just the product of her mom's twisted values.
 
You have a good attitude, and you've survived.
Years ago, people made it seem like it was almost a requirement that one be married, and there were people who got "stuck" in marriages. Unhappy, just trying to fit into a mold.

We have reason to celebrate.
 
Shaylee has her Oreck but she has wanted to use so many of my vacuums and I finally broke down and let her use for the most part whatever one she wants. She is very good with the vacuum. Every now and then she will tell me "hey be carful with that vacuum its vintage ya know" lol makes me want to slap her.
No children yet but that's around the corner some day. Not sure how well that's going to work, I guess if I have to I will pick up a cheapie from the thrift store for the kids to play with.
