Something is off about this Eureka model 9

The chrome is WAY too nice, and there are no holes for the model tag, just 2 bolts in the middle. I think at least the fan case was recast.

The rivet holes for the model plate are still there, look. They may have been filled (intentionally or otherwise). Dunno what the two screws are all about. Maybe someone installed a headlight at some point in the past?

Really, this just looks like a VERY well preserved machine, and it looks like someone did a half-assed (but incredibly thorough) job of polishing the aluminum - likely with steel wool. Cleans it up nice for the camera, and makes it look new, but it's not polished like you would expect.

As evidence for it being well preserved... you really don't need to look further than the nozzle latch. They're always broken or missing, yet there it is. I guess it's pot metal and that's why they break. Also, the bag ring and the tiny clasp on it are not rusty at all. Even my very nice Eureka model 10 has a slightly rusty bag clamp. Plus it's got the original cord and plug. Someone took some time to clean it for the camera, though.

At it I wonder if they spray painted thoroughly glossy silver paint. IDK maybe it is polished. If you only polished the body and didn't clean up the rest of the vacuum.
IDK it doesn't look right.

It's been polished by someone that has no idea how to polish. They likely just took sandpaper or steel wool to it and went wild and loaded it with scratches. You can see the scratch and swirl marks. Just needs a more heavy duty polish on a wheel. Kirbys will look like this as well when roughed up before final polish is done. The two screws might be a period repair to the locking plate, those are period panhead standard screws. This possibly might not be a Model 9 either, a lot of them all look alike and without the original tag who knows what it is.

It's a model 9. They moved the front wheels to under the fan case on the model 10. The original cord would have been lamp cord, not rubber. It's quite possible the fan case was replaced somewhere along the way. They made a million model 9's, it was one of the highest selling cleaners ever. They continued to make it as the Eureka "Special" alongside the "Standard" (the model 10).
