Just came across these new machines from black and decker, two lithium ion, high voltage stick vacuums. One with a dyson-esque design which I think I prefer over the other higher voltage, more classically designed machine. It would seem to me that the dyson inspired one would be far more versatile with the use of the wand, it has the same power head as the more expensive model, not to mention according to black and decker's website this machine's lower voltage rating still gives the same run time.


Will be interesting to see how they do when people start buying them.

Sadly though Black and Decker got there first before Dyson with hand held vacuums and long tubes and a floor head at the other end. The VH900GB main powered bagless/cyclonic hand held I bought in 2010 is testament of this, and the model before that. Works better as a hand held in my opinion but is still capable of stretching its suction airflow along its small tubes and suction only floor head.

I agree, the basic concept is not new however B&D's machine share several characteristics with the dyson machines. Looks to me like the hand held portion would be rather bulky, I guess we will see.


 


Sebofan, I have one of those same handhelds, they haven't been available here for years, and never had additional tools beyond the small brush and crevice tool. They do have good suction, a tad noisy and warm though!

I love mine - it gets very hot on the hand though after 5 minutes - but they're a great all rounder in halls of residence - bought it when I was going into postgrad year and have never had the heart to part with it. There's also a previous model in the UK under the VH780 model number (on sale in the UK since 2004 but also still sells now, 10 years on!) but it doesn't have cyclonic suction/filter. Also goes under the model number HV8000.
