love these older Miele's! Was this produced for the British market or imported from elsewhere in Europe?
I have a copy of the user guide for this series(in German) as a pdf file..frustratingly it does not mention how the hose attaches- merely as you say to remove it first in order to replace the bag. In the assembly instructions it appears to push fit into place. Give me an email if you would like a copy of the manual, happy to do so.
The original floortool would have been white I believe, matching the rest of the tools. What is the cleaner like to use? Is it quiet like the modern Mieles?
