My guess would be from 1996 or 1997, considering the amps it draws....at that time, 12 amps wasn't the standard yet for vacuums in the amps wars. And Sharp pulled out of the vacuum business around 2002/2003, so it has the be mid-90's, as it's definitely not one of their later models.
Sharp were one of the first leaders in microwaves too, though. I used to have a twin cassette deck Sharp portable stereo when I was growing up and only ever tried one of their early bagged upright vacuums in the 1990s which was pretty good but noisy.
had one like that only it had a lite. sold it for $50.00 great machine ton's of power. thats fifty bucks cleaned and serviced top to bottom. i think it;s from 1994.?
One of the things I remember about the very first North American version of this Sharp - the powder blue one - is that it rated quite well in Consumer Reports when it first came to the North American market.
They liked the fact that it was "Library Quiet"! They also like the high placement of the cord hooks (which Panasonic copied soon after) since they were set quite high on the unit for easy winding of the cord without stooping. It may have even merited a "Best Buy" since it was relatively inexpensive for the high performance you got.
At the very same time, they also top-rated Sharp's little compact canister - a blue and grey unit with a very "easy to change" bag.
