Same with dyson. They are companies which know what they are doing, shocking I know. Dyson now have sub 900 watt versions of all their uprights at least, naming the DC41 the DC41 MK2 with a 700watt combined power consumption, and the same for the DC50 AND DC40, both of which are updated, just called the "DC40 2015" according to their website.
In fariness Vax have done a similar thing in going straight for the sub 900 watt motors. Hoover Candy and Bissell, have not, and have replaced many of their 1,800 and 2,000 watt motors with 1,400 watt models.
