Sebo Evolution 300 or Sebo G1

As Chris states rightfully the G1 and G2 is not available in the UK. It was replaced by the SEBO DART model. You can find the Ensign SM1 which is the commercial version in the UK but it is hard to come by and not always cheap. There was one listed on Ebay UK last week.

The new Evolution is really suited for commercial business - is it for home use or commercial that you want to buy the SEBO for?

I can get a G1 easily from Germany, to be honest I would probably get either of them from Germany for simplicity.

They are for the home, we currently have an old X1 and an X4, while the machines are excellent I am still not convinced with the automatic adjustment. It seems to struggle in our home constantly adjusting up/down/up.

I saw a video of the G1 and saw that it adjusts manually as with the evolution. However all the equipment can be used with the G1.

Not sure if it is better to get the Evolution being that it is new.

Ok. Well, as I said previously, the Evolution takes different bags - it doesn't take the same bags as the X although the filter roll is the same, the other thing to remember is that the HEPA filter is also unique to the Evolution. It can be a real bind not having a manual adjusting - I know. I have an old 360 that I rescued from a commercial venue and I notice the difference straight away with pick up in my home.

The other alternative is the SEBO Felix - smaller dust bags but quite easy to get around the home with and has a brush roll on/off for hard floors.

Thanks, I presume you mean the large orange type filter that is at the bottom of the bag on the machine.

I am still torn between the two of them, I did like one feature of the G1 which I saw in a youtube video but Sebo couldn't confirm it worked this way.

The video shows the adjustment roller through the knob on the side, but unlike the BS36/Evolution etc it doesn't adjust until you turn on the machine and then automatically adjust to the pre-selected height. Is this correct?

I did look at the dart, didn't really like it. So it's back to these two models only.

Which would you choose then?

For simplicity I would choose either. It really depends on your home and what you're likely to put up with. Bear in mind the Evolution is all new, so buying the Evo 300 sizing means you'll get the same kind of floor head size that your X series already cleans up with but then the orange filter cartridge (yes thats what I meant) is slightly unique to the Evo 300. The BS36 has a bigger floor head and it is slightly heavier, but shares the same paper dust bags with the Evo series and lacks the stronger, longer lasting synthetic dust bags used in the X series.

Im not sure what you mean about the height adjustment - all that SEBO have done is given the Evo model a side push button for the hose to adjust the height of the brush roll when in use. When the vacuum cleaner is switched on, as far as I know there is no auto adjustment that rises or dips going to the height adjustment set. If it does that "electronically," the design element is lost on me, other than just keeping the brush roll off the carpet surface until the handle is lowered/adjustment pre-selected.

There is a second hand Ensign SM2 on Ebay UK going right now, but Im not sure on the condition of it and whether you are prepared to buy that model - I know I would and I have been considering it. Same kind of floor head size to what I'm used to with my Felix and Sebo 360. Item number 321630444444

As an owner of a Sebo G1, I can confirm that the height of the cleaning head does not adjust until you put the machine in the operating position, but the cleaner does not need to be turned on. If I hadn't bought a G1, I would have been interested in the Evolution, but I don't see the need to get one as I am more than happy with the G1 which has all the benefits/disadvantages of the X series, but with the manual height adjustment which I pesonally prefer to the automatic system.

Most of the parts from the X series are compatible with the G1 apart from the exhaust filter which is a different design but more effective at stoping the carbon dust emissions than the sponge type filter fitted to the X models.

I have also owned a Sebo BS36 from new but never found it very effective even with the optional hard brush strip installed. The Evolution seems to have the same type of single brush strip that the BS36 has which doesn't seem as effective as the brush roll fitted to the G1, Felix and X series. Had the Evolution been fitted with the same brush roll as the X models, I may have been tempted, but my next Sebo purchase will probably be one of the new Airbelt E models.

Have you seen the video below? The bloke acts like a right knob, but he seems to know what he's talking about.

Mmm the dog in the video seems to want to eat the bloke's face off. But it is a great video and I don't think it is very nice to call that man a nob, because he's not a nob!

Roger - the Evolution has three different sets of cleaning bristles to choose from compared to the BS36/etc series. As opposed to just the two types such as red hard floor style or black. The third one is green bristles, possibly for soft floors.

Ok Thanks, I didn't see that one, I saw his short video about the G1. Will have another think over the weekend and decide next week if it's an Evolution or the G1.

Saw that video, my German is somewhat limited, I understood a bit - was going to coax a friend who is fluent to watch it :)

It was interesting reading the specs on Sebo's website, the G1 is better rated in energy efficiency than the new Evolution.

The ratings on SEBO's German website are different to the ratings available in the UK, though not with every model SEBO make but most of them. Personally I don't believe in any of these energy ratings on the basis that a particular model I have bought from another brand has "A" rated performance on hard floors yet fails to pick up first time and is an absolute pig to use, thus its "A rating" is open to question when it can't even pick up basic dust off a hard floor in my use.

Same with SEBO's own data. It is confusing - how can the same brush roll on a BS model get a higher rating for carpet cleaning than the new Evolution? There's other surprising data too, with same fitted motors being added to different models, yet all appear to have different energy ratings. Yes, whilst the annual rate of consumption isn't the same, it seems the stats haven't been all that well thought out - but every brand seems to be like this - SEBO are not alone.

Had a think - even though I do like the evolution 300 what swayed me was the fact that I have realised I still have 4 unopened service x boxes - so all I would have to buy is the exhaust filters. I think I will order the G1 on Monday
