Hi everyone. I just joined and wanted to say hi. My name is Jill. I collect retro kitchen appliances. Mixers, toasteters etc. I don't have a vacuum collection but retro vacuums are cool. I own 2 given to me by my great grandma when I moved to my own apartment. The old washers and refrigerators are really beautiful. Too bad they don't make those anymore. The only colors now are white,black and stainless.

Thank you. Oh I'm sorry. One is a Regina electric broom which is great for cleaning up around the litter box. Then one is a Hoover upright. I'm not sure what model it is. its green with a brown bag. The third one was a ge canister. I don't know what model but it was round and it was green and chrome. I used i . For my wood floors, under the bed etc. Unfortunately it was lost in the move here. Along with my flat screen. I got a Hoover canister at Walmart but it was plastic junk that fell apart after 5 months. I really liked that ge. The funny thing is when my grandmothers gave me the vacuums and other old appliances I planned to get new modern stuff as soon as I could but I ended up liking the retro stuff better.

yes I really do like the old appliances. It amazes me how well made this stuff is! My grandmother told me its so well made because appliances were very expensive and that when people bought something they expected it to last. My kitchen aid mixer is from the 50s and it still works very well. I have a new kitchen aid mixer my boyfriend got me for my birthday and honestly I like the old one better. I had no idea people collected old appliances. It is really cool. I looked at some of the collections of the members here. How awesome! Where do you find old appliances? I know eBay has them but you guys couldn't have gotten all of them there. I looked on eBay for a replacement for my ge canister and I found one but it was pretty beat up and dirty and they wanted a lot for it. I don't know anything about collecting but the prices on some of the vacuums I saw were crazy.

I like a lot of the vintage appliances as well. I have a little Sunbeam stash (original boxes) in a cabinet in one of the basements.
I also have a NEW Sunbeam hand mixer (UNUSED), 2 stand mixers, 2 Dormeyers, a great Kitchenaid standmixer, (new), and 2 Kitchenaid handmixers, an immersion blender, 2 Osters, a Sunbeam percolator, (my mom's... use it whenever I make coffee), etc.
My late father, (businessman), ALWAYS taught us to appreciate a dollar, how we had them, how to earn them, how to spend them. He believed you "bought the best, and, it would last". He died a gruesome death 35 yrs ago, I was at his side. If he could see what has happened to the quality of SOME things.... I often think of how upset he'd be. He would be devastated at the 'disposable world' in which we live.
We were also taught how to TAKE CARE OF OUR THINGS, because we KNEW that nothing ever came easy. It was /is a wonderful value system. He had a good friend who was an Electrolux salesman. That man TRIED very HARD to 'convert' the House of HOOVER... poor guy.
As we all know.

I clean my house (mostly) with retro vacs like my Hoover Convertibles; I drink coffee brewed either in an '80s-era General Electric "Brew Starter" auto drip coffeemaker or one of my many vintage electric percolators (Hoover, Westinghouse, Panasonic, Universal, Regal Poly-Perk, SCM Proctor-Silex, Cory, and Corning Ware to name a few); I have 2 General Electric stand mixers and a KitchenAid stand mixer along with Hoover and General Electric blenders (plus a more recent VitaMix for good measure!); there's a Universal waffle iron for delicious breakfasts and a GE Toast-R-Oven, too, and a Panasonic juice extractor for nice healthy beverages.</span>
<span style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva;">Yes, there is some new, modern "stuff" thrown into the mix like my VitaMix, the Windsor vacuum I use as my "daily driver" and the KitchenAid mixer, but only because those machines are built to last a long, long time -- just like retro appliances! (They'll probably become retro appliances themselves, someday.) I guess what I'm trying to say with all of this is that it's so true -- you just can't beat an old "retro" appliance.</span>
