Sanyo Performax

While out thrifting recently I came across something I had never seen before. It's called a Sanyo Performax. It seems to actually be a very nice machine. It has good build quality, with lots of metal reinforced parts. It also has strong suction, but runs very quietly and has a nice sound to it. Mine didn't come with any attachments, but it has slots for a full set of them in the back. Does anybody know if this is a rebadged machine? It looks like a Sharp, but I can't seem to find a lot of Sharp vacuums. Anyways, here are some pics. Enjoy!

What sort of bag does it take; will a Panasonic U-3 fit? Judging by the base, it looks like it could use some interchangeable parts with Panasonic Jet-Flo/Tacony machines. 


 


I too thought it looked like a Sharp. The logo and sticker really resemble a Twin-Energy. Any idea what type of motor it has? I am just as curious as you are about this Sanyo. Great Find!

That vacuum SCREAMS Panasonic! I wonder if this is the upright cousin to the Performomax?

No, it is very similar to some other machines of the same vintage, but not a direct copy.


Very nice find you have there, they were really great vacuums. I have the same model in slightly worse condition.

I haven't taken this apart to the motor yet, so I don't know what it has. I also don't know about the bags. Panasonic parts are hard to get around here so I've been using Simplicity Type A bags in my Panasonics. Although a type A bag will fit the Performax, it actually came with a fresh bag installed (how often does that happen!?), the number is SC-PU1. Otherwise, here are some comparison pics with a Panasonic Jet Flo MC-6210 and a Riccar 8750.

Yeah, totally panasonic. I have a Sharp Twin energy which is made by panasonic. It's similar to yours.

I dunno, the Sanyo has it's belt drive and motor on the opposite side of the Panasonic and Tacony uprights shown in the photos and the bag chamber is much narrower.

Sanyo made great machines and if your looking for bags most all vac shops should stock them.

Found this thread after FantomLighting posted a video on his Performax. But I am quite familiar with this machine. It's just another competitive model compare to the Panasonic Performance Plus and the Sharp Twin Energy line up. I've used both this red model before and a blue one as well, although the blue one did had a quickdraw wand on board. To Reply #5, Sharp never had anything made by Panasonic, Sharp was just competing to both Panasonic and Sanyo because back then they were both company rivals. I think these were good quality machines, the only things I didn't like about these is the fact that the belt and the hose are on the opposite sides (Even the early Panasonics had those as well), and the fact that Panasonic and Sharp does have better suction than this (Although Panasonic does have better airflow than both Sharp and Sanyo).
