"News in the vacuum world today: Royal Appliance Manufacturing Co., a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Techtronic Industries Co. Ltd., which also owns the Hoover brand adn [sic] Dirt Devil had the winning bid on the bankrupt Oreck Corporation."

<span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">So now TTI is the mama corporate owner for Hoover, DD, Royal AND Oreck? Golly and gravy boats!!</span>

Well thats life...

Thats the way it goes. Nobody is exempt from the industry guillotine. Like it or not. It happened AMC, Packard, Hudson, Studebaker. For bicycles there is a comapny called "PacificCycle". All once great American brands; Huffy, Murray, Roadmaster (formerly AMF), Schwinn, and Mongoose are all owned by this company. All are made in CHINA with cheap junk parts. Your big box store Schwinn or Huffy will be gone to the junkyard crusher in a matter of a few years. Broken seats, kickstands, shifting problems, I can't tell you hopw many bicycles are often returned to the store and sent back to the company. I work in a big box store. Luckily I don't work in sporting goods - I can't lie and sell glorified scrap metal.

But I guess the American consumer for the most part doesn't care about American made, quality, or reliability. All they want is more cheap stuff.

The problem is that there are no ""American Made Only" stores for people to shop at. As a general rule, Americans are lazy. They want to go to one store, get everything they need, and be done with it. Gone are the days of going to the grocer, the butcher shop, the bakery, and the dairy. It's all about speed and convenience. What most people don't realize is that by trying to stretch their ever-shrinking dollar - they purchase disposable products at rock bottom prices, which ends up costing them more in the long run.

Here's an Example: A Simplicity vacuum with on-board tools can be purchased for $199. It will last approximately 15 years. But you must buy bags for it, and buy the machine from a local vac shop (who will also service it along the way). OR, you can buy the $47 Eureka One at China-Mart every two years. In eight years, you've spent the $200 and received half the life out of your vacuum, not to mention the filthy rugs that go along with using a $47 vacuum cleaner.

I know a few vacuum places that will not stock TTI products. They don't like the idea of vacuum cleaners previously built in the US now being built in China.Wonder if this will happen to the "TTI Oreck".One shop will order a TTI machine if a customer requests it.

I agree with Tom but its not just Americans, its everyone the world over. Its all about convenience like Tom says.

We want it faster better cheaper. We are our own worst enemy's. We want machines cheaper we want better pay and then we complain that jobs are lost to China were manufactures can get stuff made cheaper to please the masses.

Think of this though, If you buy anything from a mass store you are no better than the people buying vacuums from them too. I always go out of my way to buy stuff from small businesses.
Its the only way to keep your local economy going.

SEEMS THE SAME IS HAPPENING EVERYWHERE. HOOVER, EUREKA AND OTHERS MADE CHEAP AND NASTY.

I AGREE WITH DYSONMAN1 WHEN HE SAID AMERICANS ARE LAZY, WELL SO ARE THE BRITS. YOU GO TO ANY BIG NAME COMPANY AND ALL THE VACS AND OTHER HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES ARE LOW PRICED.

THE SAYING GOES YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. SO NOTHING NEW FOR ME THEN. I THINK I WILL STICK TO MY OLD FAITHFUL JUNIOR 119. MADE IN PERIVALE WITH BRITISH PRIDE.

GOOD OLD 119!!! NOTHING PLASTIC HERE THATS FOR SURE!!

RE..Hoover119!

And the fact remains that NOTHING and I do mean NOTHING built today will last like that, the 119,the Eureka 260, or 800 Roto Matic, any of the pre 1205 Electroluxes, any pre 1970 Hoovers..British or American, all are better quality than the best Miele Aerus or Rainbow has to offer today, plastic never was/is/or will be as good as metal!,I look at the new Aerus, overall nice, but I wouldnt use it if it were free because of that horrible pistol grip and plastic wands!I will take my G with a nice replaceable cord strapped to the hose!!common sense still is better than so called technology...and circuit boards on vacuums,,,blasphemy!!!enough of my "I want to go back in time" rant!
